Got fish
Bottom Dweller Oct 15th report
With a break in the weather Worknot, Henry and I left the docks this morning to search out some inshore Gags. The plan was to dive on some inshore spots along with some hook-in-line fishing. A quick ride just out of sight of land and we were sending baits down in 60 feet of water. I immediately noticed an "eastward" drift and remembered that the bite always is slow under these conditions. Marking good bait and with a little manuvering we get the first "surprise" of the day. Henry lands a nice American Red Snapper! I'm excited as this is the first ARS to come aboard my boat and to find one so close to shore in "green" water was a bonus! Unable to hide my excitement Henry and I suit up and splashd overboard while Worknot mans the boat and continues to drop some baits down on hook-and-line. We expected to find a "bottom" full of gags but that was not to be. After 1 hour on the bottom we managed 1 gag, 2 flounders and ANOTHER ARS that measured out at 22". Henry shot it thinking it was a "Hog" snapper. Strange thing is, they were numerous down there. I wasnt sure what they were due to the fact that "red" is the first color to disappear underwater making them appear all "silver' in color and after surfacing I was disappointed I didnt take a shot on the "strange" fish that I was seeing. I did manage 1 Gag along with 2 flounder as we finished out the dive.

Total take on the dive was 1 ARS, 2 flounders and 1 Gag. With Joe on the surface manning the boat and dropping some baits he reported the hook-in-line bite was slow although he managed ANOTHER ARS that measured right at 20" along with 1 Gag. Not seeing the Gag's inshore like we hoped, we decided to move offshore. On our way out we came across some beautiful weed lines, actually floating sargasum "cities" that any sailfisherman or mahi fisherman would envy. We stopped and pitched some baits out along with some jigs and managed one small mahi along with losing a few that jumped off. Here's a picture of Joe sight casting to the small "bailers".

Our next stop came offshore where we picked the afternoon away putting a few reds and 1 scamp in the box along with a trigger and some decent size black bass. Heres a pic of the cooler!

Back on the hill we totaled up 6 reds, 2 Gags, 1 Scamp , 2 Flounder, some black bass and the big surprise 3 ARS's!!!
I am looking foward to some fine eating now!
Joe and Henry with the bragging rights!
