Got fish
Bottom Dweller Nov 1 report
Quick report from this past saturday. Fished with my brother Scott and his wife's extended family. Had one "newbie" to bottom fishing and he wasnt disappointed.
We planned the day to start out inshore for Gag's then hoping to run off and limit out with Reds.
Saturday morning we broke the inlet along with a large "fleet" of fishermen (everybody was taking advantage of the WX after 3 weekend blowouts) to find the wind still blowing and the seas choppy. We ran SE 15 miles to about 65'-70' of "green", 62 degree water and thats all we could do due to the seas. Marking good bait on the bottom we dropped the lines in and started picking away at all the undersize Gags you could want. Also picked up another ARS as we did a few weeks back but this one went back overboard "vented" as he was only 16". By early afternoon we had 3 keeper Gags, one trigger (Inshore
) and the "newbie" was appropriately ordained as a bottom fishermen when he battled a 40+ pound AJ on a Penn 4/0. (He kept yelling to us that the reel was jammed or broke and we said no it aint keep reeling)

By 1pm we had about all the sharks we could take, were tired of catching undersized Gags (well over 20), had fed two boxes of bait to the Grunts and Ringtails and we only had 3 keeper Gags and a few Black Bass to show for all our work.Twice we pulled anchor and tried to run off into deeper water but Mother Nature had us pinned in. We stuck it out and kept moving around with the same results. Around 3 pm with the cooler situation not looking much better and me being frustrated, Mother Nature cut us some slack and turned the wind machine off. I looked at my weather beaten crew and and told them that even though it was late in the day, if we wanted more fish we were gonna have to run offshore and that we might be offshore when the sun goes down. They were like kids from Halloween the night before getting treats as their eyes got big and with them catching their second wind they all replied "YES, lets go".
We ran 11 miles ( I was prepared to go another 25) to 100' of "bluer" water at 66 degrees when we marked a good area and stopped to investigate. With baits over the side Scott immediately pulls in a nice keeper.

We drift slowly over this mark and pick at nice sized Black Bass and Gags. Here's a pic of Greg getting the biggest of the day

As the sun is rapidly falling below the horizion we managed to fill the cooler up just 1 shy of our limit, along with some a nice catch of black bass.

Great day on the water for us even though the Mother Nature didnt cooperate until late in the day but she gave all we could ask for plus a smooth ride in at 28 kts.

Pretty work captain Keith. I can relate all too well to the frustration of having a boat full and wanting to show them the goods, but not being able to for safety reasons.
Glad your crew were troopers and ready to make the move even late in the day. You made a hell of a call and were rewarded with some fine fish!
Thanks for the report and cool photos.

Just going to add the money shots to this post. Had a great time as Sat. Wish the weather would have help us earlier in the day. But it work out great. Those Reds will be there next time.
Special Thanks to Slip, The Torque still has some of the magic. The Gags did not stand a chance.
Bottom Dweller, Thanks again!
