    Bottom Dweller Memorial Day Trip

Joined my brother, his father-in-law, my future son-in-law and one greenhorn for our annual memorial day trip. Weather was a concern as the forecast wasnt looking too good rolling into the weekend. We got a break monday so we loaded up and headed offshore. We broke the inlet with an E-SE swell from the lingering weekend blow that forced me to go a little father south than I had planned. First stop was an area I have done well with in the past on Gags. Once we arrived at the spot a strong east current prevailed and the fish had lockjaw. We managed some small trash fish, a few sharks and 3 undersized Gags. Time t pull anchor and run off. An hour later we started dropping down on the "bait pods" showing on the fish finder. We struggled as we moved from spot to spot picking up nice sized pinky's and snapper and no groupers until mid afternoon when two decent size reds came onboard. With the skunk off the boat we thought our time was now then nothing. Frustrated and with th wind picking up we pulled lines and we ran inshore a few miles to shallower water when I see a few botom scrathes ( I was trained by Slip Sldin and Sea Biscuit ) and stop for a quick drift. By this time the wind and current were coming due south when we drop ours lines. As if someone turned on a light switch, BAM, we pick up 3 Scamps. one by far the largest I've seen come over the gunwales. We make one more drift over the same spot and BAM, two more come aboard. The day had been saved. We made a few more drifts but I wasnt able to get back to the spot again. With the wind a solid 15 kts and white capping we pulled lines and ran in. In all the day was good, good to get my boat out with the family and put some fish on the decks.

Very, very nice Keith. Sometimes you just got to keep working and it all comes together. Excellent scamp catch.

Great report, pics, and catch Keith. Very nice scamps. Glad you and your crew had a great day on the water. Sorry we missed you all for burgers and dogs.
