Good catching and spearing Keith, thanks for the fine report. What a sight the goliath must have been! There are more reported goliath sightings each of the past few years in the Cape fear area. Just like the ARS those fish are simply expanding their Atlantic coast range which to me (the ignorant fisherman) suggests strong populations in their traditional range.

Great report and pics Keith. Glad you all found some ARS's. Seem to be a few around. Damn fine catch and a few speared hogs to top it off. Congratulations to all. Was the Goliath trying to size you up?

Yea Nick, he was sizing Jeff and I up. Good news, I can swim faster than Jeff so maybe the Goliath was sizing him up! Or maybe both of us! It was cool to see one here off our coast, and especially one that large.
I just heard from some reliable sources a 90 lb'er was mistakingly taken from the Wrightsville beach jetty last week.
Don't know much more than that.
Like Merry Marlin said, maybe there is something to this "Global warming" thing. Who knows, maybe someday fishermen will catch ARS's off Long Island!

i was out there tues, had goodtime also. good gag bite, buncha shortie ars' we had to toss back. water was incredibly beautiful, wish i could have dove but couldnt get no one to take off work to dive with me, so i took the fishing posse out and had a blast.......was gonna dive the 264 for flounder this weekend but the 4cast has gone to crap
about that goliath 90lber, yup. some fella said he thought it was a gag and shot it. he should have known it was a goliath by its size and markings. any way took it to mott's to get weighed, filleted and photographed. I think it ended up costing him a $750 fine from the man, expensive fish i'd say.
he broke the rules and showed it off on facebook, the man got him. Its a shame though, I would love to have been able to see a goliath in person @ the jetty......
