Blue Bait Fiddling and Big Cats

I got a lesson in blue bait fiddling by the BlueBait Man himself. This is much different than the digging of bait that I am used to. It took about three hours and he had maybe 600 and I had maybe 300. He chose a cypress pond for us to start on. Very peaceful in this swamp. Glad I had the thermacell, first time i have used it since i got it three years ago. Once We were fininshed fiddling bluebait I joined BeagleMan, GW, and Elaine on the lake for a little catfishing action. We brought home 5 cats.

Tell us more about this blue bait "fiddling" Beaglewoman. I assume it's making bait, but have never heard the term before. What's involved?
Thanks for another set of pretty lo country scenes.

Don't know how much I should say about fiddling. The Blue Bait man used this term for the method of digging bait. Basically he sticks a stick in the ground and makes the bait come to the top of the ground and you then gather the bait in your bucket. The Blue Bait Man is about to turn 82 in June. He has been doing this for a while. I plan on going with him a while and see if I can learn the trick to fiddling blue bait.

Does the stick have some "juice" running through an electrode? Nice kitties BTW, channels?

Should have made that clear. No Juice. Just a bucket, stool to sit on, stick to fiddle with, and thermacell. No kind of electricty at all.

one little channel and the rest blues.

No, nothing like dynamite fishing. Just call them out the ground. It is a very cool way to get bait.

Seen the fiddling before but by a different name. Old man called it his "thunder rod". It was a stick that had a bunch of notches cut in it. You found a good spot and pushed it in the ground about 6 inches. You then took another smaller smooth stick and began to rub the big stick up and down. The vibrations created would make the worms come to the top of surface. Dont know why but I know it worked. Ground was usually moist ( seemed to carry the noise better)

    Great post!

Beaglewoman Lots of question here from the other side of the world. Those blues are a type of large worm ? Night crawlers?
That boat house is that yours what is it made from Cyprus trees?
My Grandfather used to stomp on the ground and bring night crawlers to the surface same principle? As your fiddle stick?
Great post the cats look like some nice eats, how about posting a good old swamp cat recipe, me I like it done over white ash low heat fire skin down let the oil of the fish drip to keep the fire just going, plain old salt and pepper to taste, and perhaps a splash of Tabasco. Same with gator tails, though I prefer that cold on a wild rocket salad thanks again for the post.
