Blood Splatter 9/6 Rise/SWB Hole
I am truly blessed to have some very good friends, one offered me the use of his second boat if the urge struck me to head offshore. So I have spent the last couple weeks tinkering and fixing a few things to get her in shape. Well yesterday a plan was hatched after church to head offshore and hunt the Hoos. One friend brought the 50W's, one brought a tub of chicken and last one brought the bait.
Not having the riggers ready meant a small spread and my planer rod, it'll work. 4:30am we blew thru BI and were soon greeted by some stiff NE wind and soon some washing machine water. By the 14 Buoy we started to doubt the trip but forecast said 2-4 10-15 getting better as the day went on, BS!!!!!!!!!! We fished 3-6 all day with a steady 20kt. wind and all the white caps you wanted.
Now to the fishing, On the Rise we drop our 5 line spread and in 2 minutes the planer does her thing but comes unbuttoned. The WWWWB and the makeshift right rigger go off and we have a plump little BFT and a small mahi in the box. Another pass the planer gets hammered again but this time she bites back and the first Hoo of the day lays bleeding out in the cockpit!
Nice 35lber!
This will be the beginning of the most fierce HOO bite any of us have ever had the chance to fish. For the next 8 hours we were assaulted from every angle, I have never lost as much tackle as we did today, 6 Capt. Joe Shutes became bottom dewellers, #8,9 and 10 wire were no match for the Hoos! 90 and 130lb. Seven strand was shreaded, finally found the 175lb. 49 Strand for my bridles and it was even match. 30 plus strikes, Finally finding something they couldn't snatch off of the planer, a black and purple Drone Spoon managed to take 3 to the ice box to finish.
With our limit of 8 Hoos 35lbs to the biggest 2 just over 50lb. filled our box before making the miserable, sloppy ride home.
Seeing the Cape was a welcome site, a nasty day, alot of $ laying on the ocean floor but 4 friends got to enjoy something that we had only heard about. These were by far the most aggressive Hoos I have ever tangled with, but we will regroup and be back soon with some new weapons to settle the score!!!
I wish I could have gotten some of the strikes of film but we battled a steady spray all day and I didn't need to kill another camera, from the props to the WWWB it looked like something had crashed from the sky when they attacked, unreal!

Awesome day!!!
We had one like that last fall right near there... It took 35 bites for us to attain our 8 fish that day... I had 7 wahoo bite through the 108 lb. wire... It is amazing how aggressive they can be some days.
