    Blind Fish

I thought I'd post a picture of a fish I caught recently. What's the saying? A blind fish finds the lure every once in a while!

All the fish I have ever seen came equiped with 2 eyes. Was the other one gone as well?

Very cool Steve. Not the first time I have seen a blind or 1 eyed fish but I have always wonder how they survived their juvenile state. I guess that not running in fright may do it or it could be like us when we lost 1 scene, others get better which is how they must find and catch food.

I caught it on a 1/16oz jig and a nibblet. The other eye was gone as well, from what I can tell he has been a real soldier in this pond. I'd like to see a year/length chart to see how old some of these fish are, like they do with redfish or trout. Post if someone has a chart. Of course the first thing I do is tell my neighbor about him him and he told me he caught him earlier this year. You know those type of people that no matter what you catch they have done this and that once before as well. Kind of reminds me of Buffington
I did sort of feel sorry for him so I released him back to try and finds his next meal.

Thanks goodness my drag didn't lock on me because he sure did put up a fight!

Ha Ha, there are servile guides here that no matter how good of a day I have, you can not out fish them...

Back when I was a hard core freshwater bass fisherman I caught surprisingly big numbers of bass that were blind in one eye. Topping that, I caught several that were blind in both eyes. All were mature fish in great condition. Each looked like it had lost its sight a long time before I caught it. The lateral lines and other prey finding systems other than the eyes in largemouths are obviously something else! It's probably the same, at least to some degree, in some other species (for sure catfish, carp, etc.)

Myself and some other bass fishermen figured that many of these partially or completely blind fish got that way from hook wounds when they were either released or got away while fighting.

Caught a few partially blind saltwater fish, mostly bottom species like groups and snappers. We did catch a few one eyed marlins.

Not trying to one up anybody here. Just caught more than a few of these fish. Maybe the blind ones were actually the easiest to catch and that's why I caught so many of them? I dunno...mebee?
