Heres my deal, were going drummin on 5-17 with a charter out of cape may nj. Its nice to hop on a charter for a change and get to relax a little, lets let someone else worry about gettin bait, fueling up,most of the rigging, finding the fish and being at the sticks. We got a good group going and its going to be a blast,im looking for some info on the drum bite. I hear they are renowned bait stealers which means no stickin it in the gunnel and waiting fot it to go bendo.....which is fine by me i would rather be in constant contact with the bait anyway. How fast do you hit em? Im sure we will be clammin which is the norm and also gives us a shot at some good stripers too. Are they light hitters? Slammers? Im sure the cappy will fill us in but any extra info would be greatly appreciated.

He's found its better(for him) to sit back and watch the rod tips for the telltale pull then hold the rod, he taught me years ago and it seems like a lot of new people overreact with the rod in hand. Also, I've found bigger drum tend to rush the boat, so don't stop cranking sometimes you'll be suprised, when you thought you missed one there's a big boy chasin the bait
Also, I prefer higher gear ratio reels because of this technique. Good luck and have fun

Also, I did say it was the best method for him.
