    Biminis with braid?

OK- I was doing a little scientific testing while waiting for the season to begin here in New England, and testing biminis and braid-to-leader knots.

Biminis were breaking right at the bottom of the knot, consistently at 35-38 lbs. w/50 lb.braid. Knots were tied with 10-30 turns, but it didn't make any difference- breaking strength was the same. Turns were tight, no overlapping, everything snugged up nicely.

    ???????????????? Any suggestions?

The only bright spot was that none of the slim beauty knots broke before the biminis, so there was some good news for the day.

I use 12 turns for braid, no more or less and have not had any trouble with a BT.

Repeat the test, but this time seal the bimini with thin super-glue.

ifish42na, I would think the super glue would make the braid brittle

Stay with the 12 turn and do not back wrap tight with the tag end, do it at a long slow angle, not the hard right angle you are doing it at now, this should help a lot from what I have found.

First, break the braid by itself and see what the breaking strength is.

Even though a Bimini is a 100% knot the weakest point is still at the knots end or beginning.

But it's breaking strength should not weaken the line. If it does - you need to practice tying it.
