Very nice instructional video Lou. Thanks for taking the time to do that for everyone.
Pretty work my friend.
Wondering what percentage of strength the double half hitch is? I've done some pull tests myself and they seem to snap way before a bimini.
Don't really know. I have taken sets of rigs anf done the garage pull test. In all cases the offshore knots breaks first. My scale only goes to 50 LB. and I was using 50 test and each time the line broke at the knot well after the scale was begged. This was Momoi Blue Diammond 50 that probably breaks in the seventy range.![]()
The offshore failed before the double overhand.
I am sure that some of our learned pros have some scoop here.
I hope they'll chime in.
Ya know Lou, that is an excellent point--- what good does a 100% knot do on your twist if your leader joiint is going to break way before that.
I use the double overhand on the heavy braid onmy planer rod because I know there is alot a margin for error.
I may be wrong, but on my dink rods I just don't trust the double over hand on 30lb main line-- when the leader is 80lb. However, I know many of the MHC pro's use that set up and I have personally seen a heck of alot of pressure put on a tail wrapped Blue Marlin with such a knot configuration and dink rod setup
Great video Thanks!!
Lou, all I use is the double overhand with a cats paw to the spro with braid. Caught a few BFTs and never had it fail. I use it the planer rods as well. Very easy and quick to tie. Just have to make sure the lines lay right so they don't cut into itself. Great vid Lou, looks like you are getting it down. Now lets see some pullage.
Nicley done. Thanks for the great video!
