I got the chance to fish Bimini this past weekend. We left Miami and cruised straight to Bahamas Customs. Cleared customs and had lines in early the next AM. Capt. Ron Schatman put us on 16 Wahoo to 55# in four hours. Amazing experience. Sorry about the picture quality, dropped my camera on the crossing.
While this might seem like a fishing report, its not. It's not about anything other than getting to fish with an old salt, hearing his stories and learning at my age of 32 that some people have been fishing for over 32 years.
We gave the majority away to the locals. There is a huge loss of clients in Bimini and most of the locals have been having a hard time. We got a huge line up to the cleaning table and gave away 80% to anyone that came. Kept a few pounds for home and left with handshakes from everyone.
The fillets I got home.
Wahoo Salad (boiled, then flaked and then mixed with mayo and liquid smoke and s&p)) and the rest was seared in sesame oil and after being rolled in Sesame Seeds. Sear till rare, let rest then use sharp knife to slice. Wasabi and Soy dipping sauce and cajon mayo.
When we got into the thick of things, I decided to drop a 300g diamond down and try and get a hit....no luck....headed over to the reef and tried again and got a Cuban Wahoo (Cuda) and got nailed.....unreal the action...Hope all is well up NC, wishing "y'all" (did I say that right?) a happy holiday.
