Something came up on Monday about it being a violation of the rules for the mate to touch the mainline. The captain had called-in asking if it was okay for the mate to help. Randy said it was OK, as long as they didn't attach anything to it. Apparently someone complained about it.
I'm not saying that's the violation mentioned in the press release. That's just what I remember hearing over the radio on Monday.
I was told by someone that it had to do with a fishing license.
I heard through the grapevine that it has to do with fishing outside of the boundaries and a couple crew members failing a polygraph. Not saying that's true...just what I heard. Who knows? I guess we will find out soon enough.
The Citation was not out of bounds when the fish was hooked or caught, I was fishing in the same area as were several tournament boats, and they were a good 5 miles below the northern boundry.
You are allowed to pretty much do anything in the big rock except: "The following practices are illegal in this tournament: a) Use of handline or rope attached to the line or leader, b) shooting, harpooning, or lancing and c) no participant may transfer from one boat to another."
they did not do any of those things.
It is infact pretty nit picky why they are withholding the money
There will be an official Big Rock Press release forthcomming on what happened.
I feel terrible for by good buddy Eric, and it is a real shame.
I have known Captain Eric Holmes for over 12 years and he is honest trustworthy and a hell of a good guy.
Don't spread any more rumors till the truth comes out.

First it happened in the WMO a few years ago... not the big rock... unreal...
People are just going to flat out stop fishing these events...
Guys ... think about it. With over a million bucks on the line they have to make sure everything is above board. I think it is The Big Rock's responsibility to the other participants in the tournament to research anything and everything that could be construed as a violation, even if it is "nit-picky". If there is a time to be nit-picky it is before they hand out a million dollar check. I guaranty if you were the second or third place fish, you would not be complaining about additional investigation on the million dollar fish. Thats just my two cents.
I was hoping I would get an official answer on this but I guess not yet...I heard the mate did not have a fishing licence. Just what I heard though..
