Big Hole Bent Pole, Broke Line I'm Crying

Thats how it happened this afternoon @2:59 as the Big Blue took the Express and was headed the other way she left a hole the size of the cockpit with one minute left in the tournament I think she may have landed on the main line and broke it. We got the lines in and I sat in the cockpit by myself and teared up as we headed to the hill she was a nice fish. The morning started off with a nice Mako of 65 inches on the back side of the Rock it took a 15 inch marlin lure and we got covered up with nice gaffers one time that we took 4 of--one which was a nice bull that went 36lbs. I'm in the dump guys but I will back in the spirits before the Big Rock. Got any Mako recipes??

The next bite on a jig.
I was wondering who won today. Results are hard to come by online for the Swansboro tourney if your out of town.

Sorry about the broken line Razor. Just think about how you did everything right to get the big girl to come up in your spread and eat. You got closer than most. You'll get her next time.

Mako is fantastic eating. Try kabobs on the grill. Use lemon juice/soy/olive oil (1:1:2) marinade. Garlic and crushed red pepper in the mix if you like a little zing.

Its tough to get over huh? Some never do...like myself wether its in the field or on the water.

Hopefully that same fish will bust another bait and youll land the dirty blue in the Big Rock.

    Glad you got some meat!

    Ah yes....the ole memory burner.

We had a little encounter with her this weekend as well. 500+ fish and 30lb mainline don't mix.

At least it was one hell of a show and two beautiful days on the water.

    Unhappy We had our shot...!

Fishing on the Tail Walker this weekend we had a similar episode. The Lady in Blue approximately 400-500pds piled on the right long, turned offshore, head and shoulders out of the water for over a hundred yards, tail walking all awhile dumping almost 3/4's of a 80. This was 1 hour before lines out on Sunday.
I felt the pressure release and the line slack. Looking later at tghe leader it would appear she bill wraped in the leader and never got to steel. Maybe 30-40 seconds of screeming. She was a beast and I was one broken hearted man. Happens to all that do it enough sooner or later.
Hope we can get that shot again in The Big Rock!!

I took the scuffed and partially cut leader back to my marina, sat on my boat and stirred that evenings cocktails with it.
