The Big Easy

Good morning Boxers

Just returned last night from the Big Easy. I attended our annual conference there. Monday's agenda for the conference is either early bird seminars or golf. I mentioned to the boss that i had always thought it would be a lot more fun to bring the boat down and fish instead of play golf. He said that sounded like a fine idea but to hell with bringing the boat he would book us a trip with a guide. so that is what we did. a little front had come through and changed the wind out of the west. i don't know who came up with the addage that the fish bite the best when the wind is out of the west but i have not ever found that to be the case with inshore fishing.

We launched out of Lafitte. Alden our guide ran us south for about 30 minutes to fish an area he had been catching a few speckled trout. after trying about 6 different spots we only managed one speck, one flounder and two reds. we pulled up and ran back north into lake salvador. we fished schools of pogeys with plastics and caught around 40 kept our limit of 20. it was sight fishing in a different kind of way. when we fisrst got there, you could see the pogeys flipping on the service. after about an hour the wind had picked up so we were looking for dark spots in the water. we would ease up to the dark spot and start casting. we would catch 0 to 4 reds. seveal times the pogeys would get nervous and you would see streaks of red busting through them.

We had a great time and it sure beat the heck out of playing golf.

those are Catcher's Mitts. They are used to grasp the fish to get off the hook and get the fish in the box so you can get back to catching.

nice, that sure looks better than chasing a white ball around for 3 hours. I'm still baffled how people think golf is fun, don't get me wrong I've been a bunch of times but I'm done by the 12th hole, I mean how many times do you want to whack a ball all over God's creation, and at the end of the round all you have to show for it is the golf card? Not to offend the golfers here, I suck at golf and get no enjoyment out of it, I guess it would be enjoyable if you have the skills. Sorry, back to the topic of the post...

the Catcher's Mitt, I've never seen one, looks like they could be used with bailing dolphin maybe or handling them when they flip off the gaff and terrorize the pit.

The Catcher's Mitt is in the Prototype phase. I have applied for a patent and trade mark. I am in the process of finding a manufacturer to make it. We have focus group/field testers that hve been field testing it for about 6 months. they have caught over 3000 Speckeled Trout, 1000 redfish, 130 bass and various other species using the Catcher's Mitt. They have all been very pleased with its performance and won't leave home without it.

I am working on the last suggestion from the field testers. that is something or someway to keep the mitt, once you have used it to handle several fish and the mitt becomes slimy, off of your pants.

Hopefully I will be able to find a manufacturer soon. Once I do I will advertise it on Sportfishing.com first! Here are a few pictures of the Catcher's Mitt in action.
