Roger, the size and color is right for what I saw in our yard but the tail was a little more fluffy but it was colder. If onyl those cuttys could record sound, now that would be cool...
Now for all you 2 leged cougar hunters, just remember that those 4 leged cougers are a lot cheaper to hunt than the 2 leged ones...![]()
Lee I found out today that it's a $10K fine to shoot one of these cats. I still haven't tracked down the new local WRC officer to let him take a look at the pics. Maybe by the weekend. You keeping my buddy Rick outta trouble down there???

Met with District Biologist this afternoon to look at the pics of the Cougar/dog/thingamajig. First look he says Cougar, maybe a large dog or possibly a Red Wolf, but the long tail cancels out the Wolf. This week I'm going into the area to get a scale off of the tree beside the critter to determine shoulder height and the biologist is going to ciculate the pic to other experts.
He said the last 2 documented cougars in NC were killed in Hyde county feeding in a dumpster. Both had ID Tatoos which proved they were owned by a private individual and were not native cats. All actual cases of the cats that he has confiscated the animals were private pets, I bet they made a interesting conversation piece when company was over?
He said it isn't totally possible for this to be the real deal but until we can find a pawl print or get a better pic he can't confirm the idenity.

Rodger, I have worked down there for almost 14 years and thats a cat. I have seen two in the lil pamlico area and one on bay city. WRC says the cats dont exist in North Carolina, I say they are wrong. The tail is the thing I remember most of the three I have seen, nearly as long as the entire animal. Looks like a cat tail to me.
Roger, I know a few years back there had been one seen on a couple of occasions around Harper Point area in Maribel. I'll try to ask Ken if he ever saw it personally. Seems like I remember that one being black in color from the reports.
It'll be intersting to see what other biologist think. I guess I need to drag out the snake chaps and a couple gallons of OFFand visit my old whitetail killing grounds!
Scotty congrats on returning to DC
Mark it wouldn't suprise me where these things have been, Ologist said they can cover 20-25 miles a day when they are on the move.
