Best Catch: The next bite on a jig.
That was the one that pissed me off. I think they were something like 3 for $15 not long ago.

The arials have only gone up from 50 to $55.

Well not to stir the pot here but I know pretty much what I need for my boat and my situation. My reason for posting this was because that in general there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding what is needed. From what I have seen, the biggest confusion apears to be that people do not know that there are different requirments for different size boats, number of miles from the coast line, number of people on board, warm or cold water, and if it is a doucmented vessel or state numbered.

For my boat, a 24 footer I need

one type 1 PFD for eah POB

one 20" orange life ring with 60' of line or a type IV bouyant coushion

three hand held rocket propelled parachute red distress signals, six red flare distress signals, three orange smoke distress signals

one Cat 2 406MHz EPIRB

one B-1 Fire ext.

an injury placard

a sound producing device

I do not need a life raft if I am within 12 miles of land and there are 3 people or less aboard. With a life float I can go out to 20 miles from land.

All saftey items on board need to be marked in block letters with name of vessel and 31 sq. inches of retroreflective tape. an d the PFDs need to have a pfd light attached.

The only things I am not sure of are, do I need lithium batteries in my PFD lights, and do I need the visual markers that indicate that I am fishing such as the red over white light at night and the two cones apex to apex during the day.

If someone knows something that I am missing feel free to chime in.

26' is the length at which you are required to have a life float w/strobe attached for up to 20miles max offshore, any further than that you will need a solas equipped six man life raft. Boats 25' & under are not required to have either. as mention earlier Berry Everhart w/ the CG will get you fixed right up. one more plus is if you get your CG safety inspection sticker you are a lot less likely to get boarded while fishing.

I spoke to the coast guard at wrightsville beach and I was told that any boat under 26 feet that is not for hire, you need no additional safety equipment other than what is normally required. Anybody else heard that?

CARRT PLENTY OF ICE!

WAY TO CHIME IN THERE O-SEA-D !!!!

TUNA PERMIT...IF IT IS CHARTERBOAT/HEADBOAT KIND ....THEN A LICENSE CAPT NEEDS TO BE ABOARD I'M TOLD

IF IT IS A GENERAL PERMIT....NO 6PACK REQUIRED

THE PERSON WHOSE NAME IS OWN THE COMMERCIAL LICENSE TO SELL MUST BE ON THE BOAT

FISH CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM BOAT UNTIL IT IS TAGGED BY FISHCOPS OR FISH HOUSE

ONE LAST THING....................IF ONE CATCHES A FISH AND IS IN A CENTER CONSOLE CLASS BOAT OR ANY SIZE BOAT FOR THAT MATTER.........PLEASE DO NOT EMBARASS THE FISHING COMMUNITY AND ARRIVE AT THE FISH HOUSE WITH ONE ...I SAID ONE 7 POUND BAG OF ICE FROM THE ATLANTIC BEACH SCOTTSMAN CONVENIENCE STORE..........

THAT IS DISGRACING THE GREAT FISH PLUS IT IS NOT DOING THE DOLLAR VALUE TO YOUR FISH ANY JUSTICE

I HAVE SEEN THE 7LB BAG TRICK ON TOP OF MANY FISH IN YEARS PAST......THE HORROR!

OseaD's pretty much got it covered.
It may not be required to have a life raft or suits within 12 miles but that's a long way to swim in cold water.... requirement or not, I wouldn't go out without one.

Yes it has to be orange, you can paint a white one just as long as you do not cover up the coast guard markings on it.

if your fishing commercial, then you have to meet all commercial vessel safety requirements for you length vessel... is alot more than rec requirements.
