Beware the Lionfish - Now Found on East Coast

guys & girls, charter captains & mates - consider yourself forewarned about this dangerous fish now making its way from Florida to North Carolina. it is also called "Turkey Fish." but DO NOT eat it or serve it for Thanksgiving!

unreal - they were believed to be released into Florida waters in 1992 during Hurrican Andrew from someone's home aquarium! Boat US magazine has good article on it this month.

    lionfish

On our last offshore trip we caught three lionfish, in 190 feet of water. thankfully we knew what to do with them because we used to catch them in Senegal. They were a lot bigger than the African lionfish. Sadly I think They are here for good.

I see a bunch every time I go diving. I'll start reporting them on that link.
A lot of guys kill them by poking them with their spear guns-

they are everywhere in 100ft+ Sometimes 3 or 4 together just about every dive. Some are very small some are big so they seem to be reproducing. No good, I'd hate to bump into one and I hear they aren't too good for the reefs.

I would imagine they are a lot like Japanese Blow fish - If you clean them right, they are great - clean them wrong and you are very sick.

Never seen them on a menu at a Japanese menu, so maybe even they don't eat them
