Which one do you guys like the best? I know the rubber bands and springs are faster but which ones make the ballyhoo swim better (assuming they are all rigged to standard):
Rubber Bands
Springs.
Or rigging wire

Rigging wire.......is the only way i rig jhooks...i hate springs(lazy mans/womans rig)....and there is something about rubber bands that annoys me.
Pin rig monel on everything meat fishing mono and wire rigs until the bite gets fast and furious. Then cut the monel off and the rubber bands come out. That is because if the bite stays hot, hopefully the bait will not have to stay in the water long enough to wash out or bitten off.
Only thing about a rubber band is that after a while the bait will wash out quicker compared to a bait that is wired down and is brined identically from only being attached at the nose/mouth area and wiggling on the hook/rig instead of swimming with it.
Also, you will lose more of the bait or most likely all of it on a short strike with a rubber band and there will be nothing to drop back with compared to a bait that is wired down. 9 out of 10 the head and at least half of the bait will still be attached to the hook with monel/rigging wire.
Billfishing with dinks no pins and exclusively monel. Don't want saildog or whitey to feel anything that would turn him/her off.
i am a big fan of monel... but when it is behind something trolling for tuna and not marlin fishing dinks i am all about the rubber bands..
i believe they call the rubberband system carolina riggin... now el boxo kantori is going to be a big time help in this thread as soon as he gets online which i can not wait for at all..
i am partial to the springs for beginners when tuna fishing but i am also very into the rubber bands.. i use the lightest wire i can possibly use that will hold up with the rubber band..
but like i said..
tuna fishing for meat i use the bands depending on the amoutn of time i have before pulling away from the dock..
marlin fishing dinks i am all about monel.
okay...we had this discussion this weekend....lets specify which carolina.......b/c every boy i fished with in South Carolina wouldnt have been caught dead with a rubber band......
This kid from haddrel's came on the boat one night with this awesome new rig they just got in at the shop.....it had a spring on it....I told him to get it off our boat, and to get in the corner so he could think about what he did wrong.......![]()

Has anybody ever tried the Quickrig Bridle Tool for ballyhoo ? Or is that thinking to far outside of the boxmelton international carries it.

i would have to say anywhere they bail fish like nc and florida guys do..
i know that before a tourney you are down there the night before rigging and have all the time in the world to spin your monel.. but if you look at it the way the charter guys do they got to get in, clean the boat, and turn right around and go back out the next morning..
i never charted one so i dont know but i would think the carolina boys out of like oregon inlet and such would do this when they catch 50 dolphin a day..
OH PULLLEASE!!! yeah right.....i know plenty of hard working charter boys who rig daily!!!! and prepare nightly....and yes, we bail em too in south carolina......on wire rigs...........riggin is riggin, i understand its all about preference, but please!!
i fished 5 days in a row for almost 2 years......and every day we would clean bally after washin the boat and rig in the morinin....no short cuts....or we would clean bally in the morning and rig in the morning.......
it takes the same amount of time to rig wire as it does rubber band.....
and 600lbs of mahi aint a thing in SC!!!![]()
