Thanks a bunch. Had an opportunity to talk to buddy Mikey and decided that the trick is many different pairs. Cool thing about that is your info can build upon that thought and just get insoles (my case) heel supports to keep the air in dem dogs.

If your boat shoes have removable insoles you may be able to replace the insoles with over the counter arch supports with extra cushioning.

You can go to the arch support stores and pay an outragous price for over the counter supports (I won't name any names), you know the ones, they have 30 minute informercials; or you can go to the average shoe store or athletic store and purchase a simple inexpensive off the shelf arch support.

The 2 most popular supports in my stores are the Spenco Polysorbe Cross Trainer insoles which have extra cushioning, slight heel elevation (great for plantar fasciatis - heel pain) and a moderate arch.

The other is a support made by Warm Springs which has extra cushioning, extra arch and a very nice metatarsal support to help offload the ball of the foot.

Both insoles are reasonable and durable. There are lots of other brands, styles, etc. you just need to try them on and see what works best for your feet.

I make custom arch supports for people with severe foot deformities and also for diabetics who are at risk of ulceration and amputation. Not everyone needs custom supports and my reccomendation is to try the over the counter supports first and see if they offer some relief.

Boating is definitely hard on the feet and it's important to have a good foundation when on board to help avoid problems that can arrise later on.

I like the croc's that are called islanders. They are more like shoes but they will not ever smell as bad as Sperry's will after a summer of fishing.

Its crocs for me,I have been wearing them for about 6 years.The only place I use to get them was on the internet but now they are everywhere.They are not the shoe to wear for a fashion statement,but they are comfortable.A word of caution, when they get worn down you will bust your arse.I go through about 2 pairs a summer.I use to wear topsiders,but at the end of the day my dogs were killing me.The crocs even help with the lower back pains.

A one piece insole that is almost suede-ish is amazing, an air bubble, a great sole. Seriously comfortable.

i recommend hiding those crocs in a fishbox before stepping onto land. I laugh my ass off at grown men wearing those things. The crocs flip flops are pretty comfy and good looking though, but i think they should only sell those heinous clogs in toddlers sizes only.

Custom Arch Supports really need to be fit; to fit them properly it's best to have the foot in the store so we can make the needed adjustments.

Lots of people order supports through the mail where they are shipped a foam box, they step into the foam, then mail it back for the supports.

It's best to have the impressions taken by an experienced, well trained individual, then have them make the supports and bring the customer back for a fitting which often needs adjustments (raising, lowering the arch, offloading problem areas, etc.).

It's always best to have the shoes so the supports can be properly fitted, giving the best fit and comfort to the customers feet.

I find I really need to see the customers feet, how they stand, their gait when they walk, wear patterns on their current shoes, callouses, etc.; then we determine what type of materials are needed and what type of inserts to make.

Like I said previously, not everyone needs Custom Supports, most do very well with Off The Shelf Inserts which are cost effective.

Right on all counts.....

My knees and back don't hurt after 36 consecutive hours on the boat during canyon trips. But by September they got slippery as heck.... time for a new pair. I am a 1 pair a year guy. But we have short seasons up here.
