    Belize, any suggestions?

I am going to Belize in March for a week with the girlfriend but I am definetly going to get some fishing in. Does anyone have any Ideas of where to go or who to contact. It was a last minute trip I booked it yesterday and know nothing about it. Don't even know where I am staying yet. Any advice even non-fish related would be extremely appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Tell Richard French I sent you.

He put together one hell of a trip for me two springs ago. My dad and I both caught flats grand slams on the fly at the Turneffe Island Lodge w/ Fabian as our guide.

Richard lives in the country part of the year and can tell you everything you need to know.

    thanks

Dave I contacted Richard French and told him you said hello. We have been e-mailing back and forth to try and set something up. I have heard the offshore fishing really isn't worth it. There picking up one or two small Hoo's per trip and that's it. I really wanted to do some flats flyfishing anyway, so not the end of the world. Thanks again Dave and if anyone else has any other info about anything it would be much appreciated.

That spurred one from the memory banks. My first trip to Belize I split a $5hotel room with a buddy ($2.50 each ) in San Pedro. Beds were made of foam rubber. No AC, but we did have an oscillating fan, so it was comfortable 3 seconds out of every 20 . But the Carribbean was exactly 1 foot from our front porch.

My college roomate is a native, I have been 6 or 7 times (including my honeymoon) and have seen most of the country. He's bugging me to come back, its been a few years now.

Flats fishing was excellent, so was the night reef fishing. In the spring the tarpon move through a cut in the reef, we hooked 20 in a couple hours plus big snapper and grouper. Only got offshore once, without much to show for it. Not much of an offshore fleet in San Pedro, some of the other islands have offshore charters.

Here's a couple pics I have handy. First one we rented a boat and made the 12 mile run to Caye Caulker. Probably not a smart move, don't know what we would have done if we broke down. Second on is a pier in San Pedro, third is a standard Belize bone.

    Thank Box

Thanks Box I can't wait to go. Total spur of the moment trip and I appreciate the thumbs up. I promise to bring the camera also and will hopefully post some picks when I get back.
