    Barta Tournament Report - July 15 & 16

So my nephews came in to fish the Barta Tournament with me and we had high hopes of taking them offshore for the first time. Unfortunately the forecast wasn't looking like it was gonna let us get offshore, but we were able join the inshore division of the tournament - chasing Spanish Macks, Bluefish and pinfish.

So at the crack of 0745 we pulled out of the slip to a brisk East NE breeze and headed toward the inlet.

The call of "lines in" comes just before we reach the inlet, so I pulled back the throttles and we set a 5 line spread for Spanish... 15 minutes in and we pick up 3 fish - My nephews are excited, birds are diving, fish are breaking all around us - throughout the day we picked up a few more and both boy were asking to go offshore - so I pointed the boat towards the sea bouy - and they got quiet as it got rougher - no problem, aimed it back in and caught a few more fish before lines out.

We had enough fish to weigh in - so a pretty god Day one...

Saturday morning the wind is a bit brisker out of the east but we follow the same plan and pick a good scattering of spanish and blues - both our tournament quarry - and today's fish are a bit bigger than yesterday - maybe we have a chance to get on the leader board...

That wasn't to be, but the boys had a great 2 days of fishing and are ready to come back and go offshore to catch "big" fish

That's what the Barta tournament is all about - getting the family on the water and helping out the Boys and Girls Clubs...
