    Barta Tournament

Since this is my first time fishing this tourn this year i have a couple of questions. Marty, Glen, anyone involved here point me in the right direction. Do you have to stay at the Beaufort docks? I would much rather give a spot up to someone with kids onboard so they can participate in the dockside activities first hand and just stay at the mhcyb drive over in the evening. Also are we fishing circle hooks since this is a govenors cup tourn i would think so but there is no mention in the rules other than on a pitch rod. Any clarification on these things would be appreciated.

You do not have to be at the town docks, Circle hooks are not required
this year except on your pitch rod if you have one.

Its a really well run event and worth every penny,

    See ya there

I JUST COPIED THIS FROM THE RULES SHEET OFF THE WEBSITE.....
    1. No plastic enhancements devices, skirts or birds allowed. This is a classic clean, dead bait only trolling tournament. No live bait, chumming, pitching or casting.
    2. Six (6) rods may be trolled and a seventh (7th) may be used but it must be a pitch bait with a circle hook.

I sure wish the Board of Directors would get on the ball for this fine event.

Since it's a governor's cup event, I'm sure they will adopt the save GC policy on circle hooks that was used during the Big Rock. The rules on the rule page are the same as they have been for the last couple years (ie. pitch rod circle hooks), the rules page has not been updated since the circle hook rules changed....then changed again.

I'm sure our esteemed Glenn W will get to the bottom of this.

    From Cynthia Barber Tournament Director

"Circle Hooks are your option we are not requiring them but we do have a trophy for the most billfish released using a circle hook. My understanding is that National Marine Fisheries will require us to use all circle hooks in 2008."

As a bit of clarification, J-hooks are allowed on all baits EXCEPT a Pitch bait. If you elect to use a pitch bait, it must use a circle hook.

Less than 3 weeks away from the tournament-- let's all get registered. It's only $500 (tax deductible) and you can pay with a credit card or Paypal.
Fishing dates are 7/20 and 7/21. Beaufort (Morehead City) NC

    Ken,
The Barta Boys & Girls Club Tournament is definatly part of the NC Governors Cup series again this year. I am not in the Gov. Cup, so I can't say if they require circle hooks for series points or not this year. I will try to get in touch with Randy Gregory tomorrow and let you know what they are doing.
