As I said, I too have fished and supported it every year. We are fishing it again this year, taking 5 kids with us (ages 10-14) with 4 of them first timers. We are in the governors cup but our plan is to have the kids fight all the fish - gamefish or bills - even if they lose it and it cost us points in the cup. I plan to bust my arse to catch them each a lot of fish - just like I do every day. I do not see the truth as being "negative crap". I was simply stating I think it is a shame to have to use this format (nmfs rules) when introducing young kids to our sport. Billfish and maybe mahi - probably will be plenty caught. Hoos and kings - doubt there will be many caught on circles - at least not if folks are being honest.

I started all this (wishing I had not at this point) with a serrious question about the format this year and got the answers I needed prior to the captains meeting (since circle hooks are not mentioned in the rules). Somehow it has turned into everyone thinking I am bashing the event - what a crock!! Maybe I am bashing nmfs rules - but my main point was it is a shame to have "new" kids troll for 2 days with nothing but circle hooks - makes for a tougher introduction in my opinion.

THERE ARE 7 GOV CUP TOURNYS...ONLY THREE TOURNAMENTS COUNT TOWARDS A PARTICIPANTS HIGHEST SCORE...IF ONE DOESN'T LIKE THE RUES OF THIS TOURNY AND THE SET UP THAT WAS BUILT...THE BY ALL MEANS STAY HOME....I WASN'T GOING TO FISH IT THIS YEAR BUT NOW THAT IT GROWS CLOSER I MAY SELL MY TRUCK AND LAWNMOVER TO GRAB SOME FUEL MONEY/ENTRY FEE JUST TO FISH THE THING AND HOPEFULLY WIN IT...

IN 2004 I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO WIN THE INAUGURAL EVENT AS A MATE ON THE RUNOFF AND WE HAD ALL KID ANGLERS ON BOARD,,, ALL CIRCLES ...AND ALL DEAD BAIT AS THE RULES PERSCRIBED........4 BILLFISH WERE CAUGHT AND 3 MISSED....NO PROBLEM EXPERIENCED

I just think the tournament is meant to raise money for the boys and girls club and for a bunch of young uns to catch some fish. I don't think it was meant to be a "serious" tournament for adults or pro teams.

Anyway, I simply meant to fish the thing and have fun. No bashing intended or implied.

no problem guys - just a bit "off" the last few days I guess.

I would fish this thing if gov cup or not, I really enjoy it. I hope I am very wrong and tons of fish are caught with no problems due to circles. Readily admit (as if not obvious) I am not a huge circle fan and not very experienced with them. Feel I'm a good rigger and know how to rig them and have tried it and they seem to run fine - just don't like to change I guess. I truely want to catch a lot of fish for these kids and want nothing impeding that process - thats really it as far as my concerns go.
