Not sillyness, THE TRUTH! I bet if you poll the main governors cup participants, this would be fact.

Sir, I have no idea who you are but you are nothing but a trouble maker here. You choose to remain anonomous behind a screen name and contribute absolutley nothing positive on this site--- ever.
If you don't like the tournament format don't fish it--- it's really that simple. If you are a Governor's Cup participant you know the cup is a season long points format such that you are competing for your year long points.--- I can't imagine the kids are somehow bothering you, or obstructing your ability to add points. As usual, you make no sense and are nothing but a rabble rouser--- please leave our hard work out of your petty internet entertainment. Thank you.

I have found that a good number of the Gov. Cup boats will fish the tournament with their normal crew. It is not a kids tournament for them. I like the fact that it is really two tournaments in one. It is not an expensive tournament to enter and it is run very well. There is nothing better than seeing the kids getting their awards.

I agree 100%. I have fished it every year and done my best to support it in every way I can. I am very sorry my simple (to me) question has sparked all this "debate" crap going on here. We are fishing the Gov Cup and basically have our normal crew aboard - but plan to have kids do all the angling since this has always been a tourney for the kids. I forgot about the NMFS rules and was thinking it was a tourney directors choice - obviously I was mistaken. As Glenn said, it is a nmfs decision. All I was saying is I think it is a shame for the kids because I do not think we will see as many smiling faces as in years past - 2 long days on the water with a poor hookup ratio is tough on everybody, but ESPECIALLY for kids we are introducing to the sport. I was not knocking the event in any way, just voicing my opinion - actually I look forward to this event every year more than any other. all circles it is - and hopefully I will be proved very wrong! |

I did it last year. I have to say, the atmosphere was light and festive at dinner under the tent and pretty enjoyable. My perception of it was that it was a chance for some of the more hard core teams to lighten up, get their families involved in what they do & love and just have a good time. Points or no points, it was a good time.
I know there are probably crews that go at it hard, but for many it was tuned down a bit from their normal intensity. If you have a family that likes to fish, I would say this is an event not to missed and a good chance to get them involved at a semi-competitive level. If anyone has any questions or needs more info from an unbiased source, I would even be willing to talk to you. I'm not an official promoter for the event, but would be happy to give my you any info you need. |

We were doing the standard 4/0 circles over top of hundreds of fish. I coached her the best I could, but she really struggled with the hook set. Luckily if she missed one, there were 10 more standing in line for a chance. Finally I just changed her over to a little octopus hook and that worked a little better. They just always want to set the hook out of reflex and it takes a lot of work to break that. |

We have fished it every year since they started and it is the best tournament out there.
No prize money involved = everyone relaxes and goes fishing. I have caught more on circles in the tournament than on Js. Seriously. (Although I still don't like them!) Cut the negative crap and come to Beaufort and have fun with the younguns.

I really enjoyed the tournament last year and I am working on scheduling it in for next year, I am upset I can't make it down again this year. The tournament is very well run and everyone seems to have a great time.
