Wasabi, nobody bashed Black Bart. Marty asked a simple question of why everyone pulls Barts lures over other lure makers.

Hey, I like Marty as much as the next guy, but please ... If he was talking about you and your products you wouldn't call it bashing ?

Bart has lived a life I am sure most of us would envy. He is a very real "gentleman" in every way. He has spent his life fishing and researching and honing the skills of his profession. He is an innovator in every sense of the word.

Someone above mentioned that some Hawaiin Charter Captains didn't use his lures. So what ? Hawaiin Charter Captains and Hawaiin Lure makers are almost a cult. The lures these captains are using are all beneficiant of the technology that Bart researched and developed.

I daresay that there is no other lure maker in the world more knocked off and copied than Bart Miller.

As to the question of why everyone pulls Bart Lures...well...everybody doessn't. But those of us that do, do it with confidence in the research and testing lie behind every BBL.

As someone who considers Bart a personal friend I am a bit appalled that you would dedicate a thread to bashing him. He is a true gentleman and one of the few "legends" who I feel deserve the title.

My take on lures and which ones fishermen decide to purchase, is that its a personal thing. Maybe you like the color of lure, the shape, the weight, the eyes, or well maybe even the name That being said Black Bart lures have been around for a long time and have proven record, been there done that. Some guys will buy them based solely on that reputation and history. The great thing about competition, is that it breeds innovation and sometimes and better pricing. So that gives us many different lures manufactures with many models, shapes, colors, pricepoints, etc. Each one of us will pick the ones that have the charateristics that meet our needs. Personally, I think Stalker has made a great product line at a great price point and from the feedback that we got last season they do catch fish Especially the baitheads

I don't own a BB, do own a couple of Moldcraft lures that I pull every blue moon for a blue boy. My meat and potatoes for blue marlin is horse ballyhoo skirted by a Blackhole (purple and black usually) or an Express (blue and white usually). And that is Marty's point (I think ). Too much buying plastique and throwing it in the spread and not enough dead bait rigging, honing and perfecting the art. I, like some others on here prefer rigging and pulling dead bait to pulling artificials.

Okay, Marty. I'll accept that. But for the sake of debate...did I mention...I love debate...let's say that you are right and that you find BBL mentioned more times than others in various forums. What's wrong with that ? If I was on a forum to read about plasma tv's and 90 out of 100 people said they loved their Pioneers would that be a reason to take a shot at Pioneer ?

Now, do I think all is well in the lure market place ?? Not at all. Take a look at Marlin Magazine. How many times will you find Peter Wright utterances praising the benefits of Mouldcraft over just about every other lure. How much money do you think Peter Wright makes from Mouldcraft in one form or another ? Then you have the relationship between Peter Wright and Marlin Magazine's Editor. It gets pretty ugly if you ask me. At least in forums (such as this) you are getting people's honest, unadulterated opinions.

Now, I realize that you belong to the school of thought that you can pull anything and catch a marlin. Well, there are times that it may seem like it, there are also times when it takes a combination of finesse, skill, lure and luck to get them to bite.

Lastly, I can't imagine a "newbee" out there who thought that you can only catch marlin with BBL. You stated:

Can you please refer me to a few specific threads/forums where that's the case ? I go on a lot of fishing related forums and honestly, whenever lures come up it is usually a very hot debate. I have never seen it go one way. Especially when there are other truly legendary lure makers out there hotly competing (Legend, Pakula, et al) for your lure dollar.

So it seems that you would be trying to fix something that ain't broke !

Honestly, it sounds to me like you just don't like lures and prefer bait. Cool.

I just make my own lures. Get full credit when they run good and catch and get full sh#t when they don't. Still think its hard for ANY fish to pass on a swimmin mullet on the flat line though.

That sort of depends on whether you are trying to catch fish or fishermen.

You can catch fish on a piece of corn, or an earthworm - usually takes purty colors and a bit of flash to catch a fisherman...
