YESTERDAY WAS A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET FOR ME AND CREW...OVERBOARD....JDDEROSSIER.......................WE WERE IN THE GRASS SO THICK...SUCH MISERABLE CONDITIONS .....THAT WE CONSTANTLY HAD 3-4 BAITS GRASSED UP AT ALL TIMES.........WE SHAGGED SO MUCH GRASS THAT THE COAST GUARD ISSUED US A MARIJUANA MISDEMEANOR CITATION......BUT ........THAT'S WHERE THE BILLS WERE LIVING , ALONG WITH THE GAFFERS
BUT WHAT MADE MY DAY SO BAD....SO UGLY? SO UNWAHOONBOX -LIKE? NO......IT WASN'T THE FACT THAT I MISSED GAGGING TWO BLUE MARLINS ON THE LONG RIGGERS.................NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..............IT WASN'T THE FACT THAT NEAR DAYS END I HAD ON A DIRTY WHITE BOY ON A FIFTY WIDE ...WITH BENT POLE ACTION...........AND MERELY GAVE IT TOO MUCH DRAGOLA TO QUICK!!!!................................NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.............I TELL YA, THIS WAS NOT MY FIRST RODEO , BUT FOR THE LIFE OF ME..................IT WAS MY WORST PERFORMANCE IN THE PIT IN 25 YEARS...HANDS DOWN THE WORST

HOPING HE WOULD CALM A BIT BEFORE I ATTEMPTED TO BOX HIS ILLUMINOUS HIDE...........I WENT STRAIGHT TO THE DECK WITH HIM............WAITED 30 SECONDS AND THEN ATTEMPTED TO GO TO THE FISHBOX WITH HIM...................WELL, HE HAD OTHER INTENTIONS AND BACK OUT THE THE BOX HE CAME AND BACK INTO HIS WORLD!!!! STILL HOOKED UP THOUGH.............

I've also wathched the Beast from below take the Steel. Was on another boat early in my offshore life when we hooked the monster fought him to the boat. Got the steel in him as his head broke the water he thrashed about looked us in the eye and said not today.No not today! The leadar snapped and before we could get the other gaff the beast had jerked the steel out of the mates hand. All that work, time, money gone in an instant. When the Beast takes your steel they swim away slow. They swim proud and deliberate. Your Gaff disapears in slow motion like a B rated submarine movie. Oh the humanity!

Thats sounds like the day of death my mate had years back. Five different blues raised on left rigger and five times he went to the right and dropped back on open water. We too boxed a bull that he missed four times then stuck in the tail. He failed to close the lid and the fish went back swimming. All on tape.
If its any consolation the next day he received visual study aids and his preformance improved by whacking the next four billfish. His punishment though will be having this shot gracing the pages of several publications in an ad.
Marty, did you check to see if anybody brought a banna on the boat??? Shake it off I'm sure the Beast will give you another chance. Do it again he might just have you sit the tournament's out. Good luck you'll get over it, we all have those days. Some more then others ( I seem to be on the more side).
Marty, you are still the top dog in the cockpit. I know that it was not funny at the time, but it is sure funny today. I don't mean for that to be negative. Sometimes we just have to laugh at ourselfs. All in a day of fun with great friends. Rock on Box!!!!!!
Have you ever thought of foam filling the shafts of your gaffs with a closed cell 2 part foam? I did it to a cheap sea striker gaff and it floats pretty good.
