    Baits for the planer...

What lures do you fish on your planer? Meat or no meat? spoons? lures or naked? Be specific..

Like glenn said. Pretty broad question. Depends on speed, dept and size of planer and target species. But just to generalize, I prefer black and something. Usally black and red or black and purple. preferably with a hint of flash. We primarily troll for wahoo with a planer. Typically we are in 20-50 fathoms and fishing bottom structure or weedlines and wood. We almost always have a large ballyhoo rigged with #8 or #9 hand twisted wire and troll between 6 and 7 knots. I like the larger planers because it gets the bait down faster and keeps the planer close to boat. This will keep the planer away from the rest of the spread. Their are much more accomplished planer fisherman on this site but that is how we generally do it on my boat.

No need to dance around it guys, a select bally PROPERLY RIGGED TO SWIM and dress it up with a Matanza done deal catches anything and everything that can be caught on a planer setup!

What kind of Tuna, when and where? For this kind of question, I would say you would be best off with a Green Machine.

The most "universal" bait one can fish deep while trolling is IMO a 3.5 inch drone spoon. Red & black or pink and black is a good choice. Rigged on a long (100 feet +) mono leader it will catch just about any pelagic, as well as a few "surprise" bottom fish, if trolled deep enough.
    Good luck.
