Some one explain this to me.I need a new bait tray so for the past couple of weeks I've hit every tackle shop from Northern Va to Nags Head.I go in look around and all I find are these cheap plastic things made by what I consider a reputable company in offshore gear.I know that there is no way plastic conducts cold like metal and they want $40 for these things. And when I ask if they have the carolina bait tray's I get this deer in the head light look followed by a ......Whats the difference?Aaagghh! I guess I have to break down and order one.
if off the hook is out of them, try a kitchen suppy house, they sell the ones made for the catering trays, made of quality stainless, and various sizes....

Restaurant supply house, stainless steamer tray. I think is was about $40.00. Or you can look around their shelves and find a stainless serving tray for half that. But you have to drill holes or cut slices in the serving tray version to get the goo to drain.
Holds 3 dozen mediums or 48 smaller dinks. You can layer two of them as shown below for more bait. Thanks Going Deep. That is the exact one I have used since last spring.
I can't bring myself to spend the money on a $100 bait tray.
I went to Lowe's home imporvement and made one.
I bought a big piece of the plastic checker board diffuser type stuff that goes inside of the big light fixtures on a drop ceiling.
I can cut them to fit my bait cooker perfectly. No wasted space and they stay off the ice. I have been using this stuff for a couple years now.
When I use a lot of baits and need more room I use 3/8" wooden dowels in each corner and stack a second piece of it so I have 2 shelves of bait. It really works great for me.
Here's a picture of the tray in a 95qt Icey Tek. Right now we have 2 sizes in the custom trays the big one 30" x11".5 x 2" and the smaller is 24" x11.5 x 1.5" which fits the Icey Tek 75qt.
We also stock the Carolina Bait Tray's in the 94 and 54 sizes.
