Back to Panama
Ok, so we’ve had the worst winter that I can remember since like 1847, and the boys are going stir crazy so we decide it’s time for a road trip back to Panama! We each pack a carry- on bag and we head for the last remaining prison island in the world—“Coiba” and the charter operation of Capt. Tom Yust to fish Hannibal Bank, Montosa , and Jicaron.
After a day of travel and overniting in a Mexican hotel (go figure?) in Santiago, Panama we arrive in Coiba for a week of bliss. No phone, no TV, monkey’s running thru the camp, Tito the croc eating our fish racks, open bar, great food. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah—fish! Yes the fishing was good too ! Enjoy the photos, I’ve got to go shovel the snow out of the boat cockpit.

Great pics. Sounds like you deserved a break.
Glad to see that Tito is still ok. Last August when I saw him for the last time he had a rope that was growing ever tighter around his fat stomach. Glad it came off somehow.

Good to see some nice flat blue water as we get ready for more bad winter weather!!!
Any signs of marlins wanting a bite of those mahi's as we see a nice big circle hook?

Karma- Tito was fine and way more aggressive than I have seen him in the past, I think things may get out of hand there, he came rocketing up off of the beach and onto the grass for fish racks. I've worked with big reptiles since I was a kid, this time I felt that the situation could get out of control pretty easily, he is too used to getting fed. There was no pole handy to fend him off if he got the wrong idea, and it was high tide so he was right up on the field. I wouldn't be too surprised if he takes a walk one night over to the beach side and helps himself to a small Panamanian teenager camping on the beach. Then the park people will shoot him and it will be all over.
Merry Marlin-- Slow marlin bite going on, but we had two big ones come up. The first trashed my bait while tailwalking towards the boat, never could get the line tight for a hook set. The second bit throught 300lb leader (not chafed), reeled it in and had a little mushroom cap at the end!

Nauti- Never weighed the AJ, but I will tell you I am 6' 3", and in reasonable good shape, after getting him in the boat, I couldn't lift him off of the deck for the photo, the back end was still on the deck at photo time. I would say he was real close to 100 pounds.
