Back in the game

Since selling my boat earlier this year and working alot fishing has been scarce. The guy I fish with finally finished the deal on a 33 Blackfin( Thanks to good info on the hull and motors from the good folks right here a big thanks) and over the last month alot of work went into getting it ready for battle.
We intended to fish her earlier in the week but those last few gremlins prevented that plan.So the maiden trip was to be the Va beach tuna tournament. The weather was great and the water was to calm if there is such a thing. The boat has an awesome wake almost no white water and the 3208 cats just thump away singin their song.I have to say coming off a twin outboard rig the wide diesel hull and double spreader riggers sure do make it easy to lay out the spread.
About mid morning with not a tuna in sight this pointy thing pops out on the flat line that was draggin a huge dead squid. It was whitey and he wanted some lunch. After grabbing that huge thing I dont think he knew what to do with it but he was figurin it out.Keep in mind we were fishing a tuna tourny so no dink rig was ready to go(head hung in shame).Well trying to free spool an 18" squid to a white with 100lb tackle seems to be a skill we were lacking ,but not to be denied a meal for his effort he decided the squid chain bird green machine would do and we got him to the side of the boat(Ugly way to catch a white but I'll take it).
We wound up with another white on a short rigger blue white seastar and hoo but he came off about 5 minutes into it.
A few gaffers and that was our day not to great for a tuna tournament. But raising 2 whites on the first day out on a new rig......I'll take it.Sorry no pics from this trip my dumba## left the camera at home...next time.

RAZR...I'M LIKIN' THAT NEW RIDE OF YOURS, MAYBE BECAUSE WE ARE RUNNING THE SAME ONE OUT HERE, MY PAL AJ BRANDON'S "DOG HOUSE". ALSO, ONE OF MY BEST BUDS RUNS THE 33 "TAIL CHASER" DOWN IN CABO, WHERE IT IS AN IMMENSELY POPULAR CHARTERBOAT AND HE REGULARLY PERFORMS PURE MAGIC WITH IT. THOSE 33 'FINS ARE REAL FISH CATCHERS AND SWEET RIDES.

AS A NEW BOAT GIFT TO DOG HOUSE'S SISTER, I'D LIKE TO SEND YOU ONE OF OUR NEW WAHOOBARS WITH A FAT, SIXTEEN INCH HOLLOW SQUID CHASEBAIT (IT'S GOTTA BE GREEN, THOUGH). IT IS RIGGED FOR BEAR. TAKE A LOOK.

IT'S NARROW, LIGHT, EASY TROLLING, WON'T TANGLE AND OF COURSE STOWS REAL EASY. AND THAT HOLLOW SQUID DOES WHAT THE CARTOON ONE DOES WHEN IT GETS GRABBED BY WHITEY, A BLUE ONE, A BIG TUNA, OR A BIG WAHOO. ALL THAT I NEED TO KNOW IS WHETHER YOU WANT THE SQUID RIGGED ON WIRE, OR MONO. I'D OPT FOR THE WIRE BECAUSE WE DON'T CALL THESE THINGS "WAHOOBARS" FOR NOTHING, BUT THAT'S UP TO YOU.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE THIS PUPPY OR NOT. IF YOU DO, I'LL GET IT RIGHT OUT TO YOU.

GOTCHA, RAZR. I'LL CHECK THE PM AND GET THAT PUPPY ON IT'S WAY TO YOU.

"PUPPY"?

YUP. THAT'S JUST SIXTEEN INCHER. HERE IT IS WITH THE BIG DOG.

AS YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING EATS BIG SQUID, ESPECIALLY BLUE ONES, BIG TUNAS AND BIG WAHOOS. I'M A WRECK EVERY TIME I RUN THAT BIG DOG AND HAVE A HARD TIME TAKING MY EYES OFF OF IT...THE STRIKES, WHETHER THEY TAKE DOG FOR A SQUID, TUNA, OR MAHI ARE A SIGHT TO BEHOLD! THEY'VE GOTTA KILL THAT STUFF TO EAT IT AND IT'S A WHOLE, NOTHER KIND OF BITE THAN ON A SMALLER BAIT OR LURE.

KAAAAAWHOMP! (SQUISH.) GOTCHA!

ENJOY!
