WOW, What an AWESOME experience,
This all started several months ago when I got on SPORTFISHERMAN.COM, introduced myself and asked for some advise on when and where to go looking for a BIG BLUE MARLIN. Several of you guy's responded back with various spots in Central America, thanks for your input. Then this WAHOONBOX character comes on and tells me I can stay right here in the USA, says he'll put me in the HOT SEAT and introduce me to MR. BOSCOE REDNECK STYLE. Common sense tells me this is a good thing, I don't have to leave the country, I'll keep the business here in the USA, and I speak and understand redneck. So I discuss all this with Becca and she's not quite sure what to think about this BOX character after seeing some of his videos, but tells me to go ahead and book the trip for June 14 thru 18, reserve 5 days, fish 4 days.
TIP FOR THE DAY - When your wife tells you to book a fishing trip, don't ask any questions, don't say a word, go immediately to your phone/computer and book the trip
We fly out to NC from AZ, drive down to MHC on Saturday and meet up with Marty, he introduces us to Overboard and his family, nice and relaxing, easy folks to be around.
NOW COMES THE FISHING REPORT
DAY 1 -
Lines in for less than 10 minutes, small mahi. I'm thinking to myself this is going to be crazy. Only three more mahi for the rest of the day, two come off right at the boat. So we put two in the box and that's it for the day. We've been for a boat ride before but, there is a different feeling as we leave the dock, these guy's are not happy about what happened. Brian tells us to get some food and some rest because tomorrow is going to be a different day. So we did, thanks for the fried mahi Marty, tasty stuff, Becca says she has to have a deep fryer, I'm OK with that.
DAY 2 - A DIFFERENT DAY
Same thing again, lines in less than 10 minutes average size mahi. The mahi bite continues, we get 5 or 6 more then guess who comes to the party. BIG BLUE MARLIN, GAME ON, not much of a show after the bite. INTENSE, not sure what I expected but I was glad I've been eating my WHEATIES. At one point we were less than 1/3 on the spool. 1 hour 19 minutes of, CRANK IT TODD, GET SOME, TAKE A BREAK RELAX A SECOND and we had brought him to the leader at least 10 times trying to get him along side the boat, never happened, I didn't get a good look at him. Release, Brian says 100 to 110" and approximately 400 lbs. 5 minutes of THANK YOU to everyone and it's back on the mahi. The rest of day is kind of a BLURRR!!!! The WHITE MARLIN decide to join the party. Becca brings 2 to the boat, 1 comes on the boat for video and Marty lets me release him, how cool is that. I bring 2 to the boat, Brian, Marty, and Jake are working hard keeping us hooked up and getting EXCELLENT video all day. Fish count for the day - 1 Blue Marlin and 4 White Marlin released, 13 Mahi in the box, and 1 seagull released (tried to fly off with our bait, kind of like flying a kite) Excellent Meal at the Watermark in Atlantic Beach. We looked across the table at one another asking what just happened. YES, IT WAS A DIFFERENT DAY - WE WERE EXHAUSTED
DAY 3 - ANOTHER OUTSTANDING DAY![]()
Again, lines in and less than 10 minutes average size mahi but this time the bite did not stop. I'm not sure how many were in the box before BOSCOE decides to join us again but this time he wants the mahi we have hooked up. GAME ON, Jake tells me he looks bigger than yesterdays. He gives us a 5 to 10 minute performance on the surface, then breaks off. The mahi continue to bite all day, hardly time to drink water. Becca hooks one up and finally gets it on the boat and it's big, 58 long 42lbs. NON-STOP ACTION ALL DAY
Fish count for the day - 27 mahi in the box and 1 seagull released(same as the day before, don't think we got either one of them on video)
DAY 4 - WE NEED A BREAK
Vacuum bag fish, sit on beach, relax, reflect, enjoy life
DAY 5 - IT'S GONNA BE ROUGH
We arrive at the dock thinking we're going off-shore, Brian tells us we might want to consider staying in-shore, it's rough, it will take at least 3.5 hours to get out to the gulfstream. No thank you, we're not interested in getting pounded on a 3.5 hour boat ride. In-shore on smooth water for 1/2 day sounds perfect, we get to catch another species. Cape Lookout beaches for American Mackrel and Blue Fish. 3 hours of smooth water, beautiful beaches, we put 46 fish in the buckets. SO GLAD WE DIDN'T GO OFF-SHORE
DAY 6 - HISTORY/BEACH DAY
Went to Fort Macon, toured the fort. Went to Atlantic Beach, buried each other in sand, pretending to be kids again
THAT DOES IT. Kind of long. Loads of fun. Hope you guy's enjoyed reading it. Photos later today maybe. Video, Marty is a busy guy, it take lots of time to do it right, we'll all see it on ************ when he's done, it will be AWESOME.
Marty, What more can we say than THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
Brian, Thank You for putting us on the fish. DREAM COME TRUE.
Jake, Thank You for all you did to help make it happen. Enjoyed the time with you and your family.
And last but certainly not least, THANK YOU BECCA FOR THE MOST WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER. YOU ARE A BLESSING TO ME AND I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW HOW AWESOME YOU ARE.
