For a cheap easy way to attach shads/etc to a dredge:
1. Cut yourself a 6 inch or so piece of wire.
2. Tie a haywire twist in one end (you can put a swivel here if you want or not). This end will attach to the dredge.
3. Bend the tag end of your wire about 160ish degrees to make a barb.
4. Push the barbed end into the shad leaving just the eye of your haywire tist exposed.
Hope this helps. The products the other guys recommended looked good too. I did this w my artificial dredge this summer and it held up real well.

How fast can you guys troll the dredges??

I think Admin is going to let me have this space
I make and fish with our Spider lightweight composite dredges rigged with hollow squids running in size from 3 to 20 inches and in a wide variety of colors.
The Spider is far lighter than any metal dredge, plus the hollow squids weigh far less than any of the molded squids or lures being discussed here. The result is a very light dredge that you can troll with very little pressure on the tackle, you, or the fish. And because of that, they can be "armed" and you can actually catch fish on them. Plus, unlike any other dredge that I have ever heard of, Spiders can also be trolled on the surface, where they make a wild, ruckus-raising commotion without birds or anything else, just the hollow squid teasers on them.
We try to make our SuperBars and Spiders appear as natural as possible. You will find almost no hardware on them at all and, they do not kink, rust, or corrode and the bars and Spider heads themselves are guaranteed for life against breakage. Not warranteed, guaranteed. They are also considerably less expensive than other dredges.
So whether you want to use them on planers, downriggers, as bait and switch teasers or even on top, they are ready and able.
Here are some looks at them. The hooked up fish is a striped marlin. The picts and illustrations are from the new SpreaderBar Bible.
