I think APPS is just short for Applications. A lot of the new phones have the ability to download different "Applications" based on what you want to do with your phone. It just allows you to do different functions with your phone.
Such as: looking at stock's, weather, music, games, traveling, mapping programs, GPS programs, moon and star gazing programs and just about anything else you can think of.

Not sure how you could use to benefit the charter boat.

So App is short for Application - ie: a computer program that does something... (notice I didn't say something good or bad)

So here is an example of a positive App for Charter boats...
Using the GPS function on your iPhone, you choose the "Charter Availability&Booking" App - The App determines that you are in MHC, and Run Off has an open spot tomorrow - Push the "Would you like to Book it now" button and you have a full boat...

I don't think the app exists yet - but would be cool...

The iphone does have a navionics APPlication which is pretty sweet. Fully functional gps capable of plotting points, creating routes, marking bites, searching marinas, and covers the ENTIRE east coast, including bahamas. U can also upload your route to google earth.

Don't have to have cell service for it to work. Decent little backup for the price of $9.99

Get me an SST/ XM weather interface, then we'll really be talking.

As mentioned there is a gps app. The only other ones I've come across that are marine/fishing related are apps for tides, weather, knots, and bouy forecasts. Any of the real-time reporting apps such as up to the date bouy reports or weather radar would require internet or cell phone service. So I think they would be pointless offshore.
