    Any ATV Experts out there???

Alright I have a 2007 Suzuki King Quad 700 with about 250-300 miles on it. Everything has always ran fine, until now. Just cranked it up after it sat for 4 months, battery was dead and had to jump it, and the engine it not running smoothly. It runs fine up to about half throttle then at 3/4 - full throttle it starts sputtering and the engine is just not running nearly as smooth as it was. Anybody have any ideas what could be the problem?

sounds like the carb needs cleaned.... if it is fuel injected make sure to get a good charge on the battery too, low voltage can mess with the fi & cause it to run rough. I would If it's carbed I would start by draining the bowl on the carb and check for water or bad gas... next check the plug to make sure its not fouled. sounds like something simple so cover all the basics before doing anything too extreme.

I agree sounds like the gas is old in the bike. I would first drain the old gas and fill with fresh fuel. The carb may need to be cleaned from sitting too long if it has one. If the plug was bad it wouldn't start at all but I still would replace it after changing gas.

I would also run the bike a least every few weeks if not being used. I also make a habit of turning off the gas and letting the bike run almost out of fuel before I put it away this gets all of the gas out of the lines before storing.

The bike is fuel injected. This is the second time the battery has died completely to the point where it wont even turn the motor over. The first time the bike set for about 6 months, battery was dead so I replaced it. The bike ran a little rough to begin with, but I blew it out 97 miles in one night and the following day. Then it ran fine, now this time it tried to blow out the gas but it continued to run rough at 3/4 throttle, with this being said this time I didn't put the bike in gear and run it rather it was in neutral.

Capt Jon do you think the whole fuel injected system is damaged?

i would try and ride it a bit with a load on the motor, maybe whatever is blocking injector will blow thru. gas that sits tends to build a film.

no i would not think its damaged.... put in a new spark plug (will run on a bad plug just not well), drain all the gas and replace the fuel filter. try running sea foam in the gas to clean the injector and pump and give it a good ride. if that don't clear it up then the injector might have to be removed and soak cleaned. just make sure the battery is holding a full charge... a weak battery will not supply the pump enough voltage to do its job right and can cause it to run bad in the upper rpm's and under load.

Caleb Definately check your battery. One of mine is fuel injected and did the same thing. If the battery is that dead its pulling too much current to allow the electrical system to run the bike correctly. My older Kawasaki runs just fine after jumping a dead battery but the new FI one wont I have to charge or replace the battery if its shot. Even if its a year old the battery may shot, I replaced one last december and it shot again of course its been sitting there for about 3 mos now with the key off must be a drain somewhere. Try leaving the jump hooked up and see if runs better that way. You'll know right away. Dont do it for long but a short while wont hurt anything.
