God it was good to turn lines loose and get back out there. Reports of late have been the same, find em and you will get em. Usually about 20-30 ftm, its the dog days of summer. Looking at the sat shot the closest hot water was 150 ftm about the 650 line. We pulled back on the 650 25 ftm, little scattered grass and a change, nada. Water was nasty mixed and green. Tim pointed her to the deep to look for the edge and see what we might pick up along the way. Has been a bunch of dogs in that green water and I was hoping for one. Not a nibble till about 1000, we ran across some bait and scattered grass. Couple bailers that couldn't find the hook and mohawked the baits. Pounded the bait one planer bite, nope. Off the the deeper. 250 ftm back in the grass and SHAZAM! Triple slingers, the four, five six. I have one rod left as Tim is saying there are gaffers right behind them guys. I am trying to get that one rod back to the gaffers when Tim says "Rick you got a mess over here. He had 2 fish on the bridge poles that were around the other lines. One person in the chair, 2 adults fighting fish and 3 younguns wanting to get in the mix and gaffers just waiting to get caught. Can you say pandamonium. Tim passed the first bridge rod down. I weave it around and it comes free now someone take it and crank it in. We got the fish in in the chair and put one of the younguns in the chair. the fish were coming so fast I had enough time to fling them in the boat, quick rig another bait chuck it back over and let it drag and flip another in the boat. This went on for about a half hour. Don't ask for details I can't give them to you, except for one event. One of the crew was experienced and rigged the chugger head while I was busy on a TLD 25. Tim says "THERE IS A HUGE GAFFER TRYING TO EAT ONE OF THE FISH WE HAVE HOOKED". Larry drops back the chugger as I sling in the fish he was trying to eat. About a 6 lbr. Just them Larry hooks the fish that tried to eat the fish I just slung in the boat, all scarred up. Man did he put on a show, 38 lb bull in the box. The fish disappeared as fast as they came. We headed back to the beach to home. The water cleaned up in the same area we were in earlier. As we passed by a 8 ft 4x4 I said get ready. Wham the lt long goes off as I am getting it to the chair the planer trips Nice hoo in the box,. its on again. Pounded the area few more dolphins and headed to the barn. About 8 hrs of trolling with an hour of excitement but it was a blast!
Brother Rick,
I don't know who is happier now that the Fishin Days is back on the water. Is it you now that you get to do what you love so much, or us who get the benefit of your cool fishing reports?
I hope you guys find some lumber loaded with 'em every time out!
