Another Alternative For Replacement TLD25 Handles

I know there are a lot of you guys that hate the tiny handles that come factory on a TLD25 (or TLD20). There are several companies making aftermarket handles for these reels but I have another alternative.

The handles from the SINGLE SPEED Shimano Tyrnos will also replace the handles on the TLD20 and TLD25. For those of you that are familiar with the Tyrnos reels, the handles on these are sweet! MUCH longer design along with the rubberized Septon grip which doesn't get slick when it gets wet. This will give you a lot more confort and power than will the tiny handles on the TLD20/25 reels.

The part number for this handle from Shimano is TGT0775 for the power handle found on the Tyrnos 20/30. The smaller speed handle found on the Tyrnos 12/16 is the TGT1133.

Below is a picture of the Tyrnos 16 and Tyrnos 30 with the mentioned handles. My apologies for the picture quality---I had to take some pictures from my Shimano catalog. Hopefully they are good enough to make them out though.
Just thought I'd throw this out since there is a lot of interest about this....

I put a handle from a tyrnos 30 on a tld 25 last night at Bass Pro in Hampton VA. It was quite nice. I did feel the Handle from the 30 was a tad long though. Maybe a Handle from a 20 would be better. I didn't get a chance to try one because BPS didn't have a 20 tyrnos available. It would be a great upgrade to a TLD though.

    Great tip Squid!!!!!

The 20 and 30 will have the same handle. The Tyrnos 12/16 also share the same, smaller handle that may fit better. Glad to hear it works as well as I thought it would!

Something I learned in my travels may be a bit controversial but I will throw it out there anyway. these big handles on small reels promote the effort of horsing a fish as opposed to a fast retrieval. The idea of gripping these little reels with 6 to 8lbs of drag with your entire hand and cranking from the shoulder seems to be a waste of energy and lacks in speed of retrieval. Using the standard small knob on a tld will almost require you to hold the handle with thumb and forefinger and reel quickly with the wrist which will give the angler a much faster retreive rate. It is nearly impossible to horse a nice fish in with 6 - 8lbs of drag. just a tip I learned from the pros and helped my angling ability out quite a bit.
