    My spread goes as follows:

I like Big plungers in the short corners...lots of diving action that gets below the the wash.....My shorts consist of medium size teardrop, cup or pusher type lures....lots of smoke.....My long (clean water running) lures consist of light weight small size scoop face w/ jet, small st8 running pointy head lures, or small slant type lures...Medium jet type lures at the shotgun position.

If conditions are rough, I go heavier on certain heads.

    Last but not least...

You can't catch em if you don't run over them.

This is my opinion, take it for what it is worth...

Lures pulled close to the boat should have a big presence, weather it be by size, action or amount of bubbles created. You have to choose a lure that stands out from the white water of the boat. The fish looking up seas a big thing in the water and a small straight running lure may not be noticed.

Everything else you pull behind your short lures depends on the conditions, type of boat and fish you are targeting. If you pull teasers that ride the surface choose lures that splash and skip behind them. If pulling a dredge choose something that appears to be diving to follow the bait school you have created.

Everyone has a different opinion about the long rigger lure. I prefer lures like a Black Bart Hot Breakfast or Pakula Sprocket. But then again you might be better off with a rounded tube style head.

Everything changes when the weather picks up. High winds will dictate how long or short you pull your spread. Lures that spend too much time on the surface in windy conditions may be blown out of position.

Skirt colors are up to the individual, but you had better have a selection. When purchasing lures I like to get 2 of the same heads at a time, one rigged bright and one head rigged dark. I will pick a tuna or mahi colored skirt over anything else if given the choice. Sometimes the marlin will pick a Halloween colored lure out of a spread of more natural colored skirts just to let you know it does not matter. Always have a head rigged with a pink and white skirt so you can pull it when you have women on the boat. Tell them you rigged it especially for them.

Good luck with lure fishing, it is going to be an expensive endeavor!

Peter has a good tag line illustration on his site.

Once I get to the boat, I take some pics and put something together for SF.
