For all you NASCAR fans Some Dega pics

Found myself in Atlanta on business on Friday. Brought the kid and he wanted to spend the weekend with family. Found myself faced with the prospect of just hanging around all weekend when the phone rang.
Friend of mine from Wilmington happened to be in Talladega and was "stuck" with with one extra ticket and a VIP pass to the race. Louie wanted to stay in Atlanta so............
Now bear in mind this IS the grandpappy of Nascar and THE Redneck capital of the world for a few weekends a year so I loaded up the car and hit the road.
Having lived in the south for almost 30 years now this wasn't my first trip to the track but never did have a chance to see this spectacle.
People camp here for a week in advance to see the big show and if you ever wanted to see what a couple of hundred thousand Rednecks look like when all packed together with the Budweiser flowing, this is the place to do it!

Hell, I was just happy to be there.

Had to stay in this "dump."

VIP Passes, Hospitality passes, the works!

Got to meet and chat with many of the drivers and check out their hardware.

    The King

    And hospitatlity means, well, hospitality!

Natuarally got to tour the pits.

This place is a world class spectacle!

Our seats were between pit road and the start finish line.

Here are some random race shots.

    We ARE in Alabama

    A REAL towel head!

I had to lean WAY out over the track to get these shots.

    Down to the wire........

    Victory Burn Out.....

    Tough day for Michael!

    Yep, he's pushing.

It ONLY took about 3 hours to get back to the main road but well worth the trip.
If you have never been to a big boy race, it is worth it to make the trip, at least once.

Lou - never been much of a race fan but have been invited to dover and dega many times. Maybe I should take them up on it one time.

I will say I watched the last 30 laps of both sat and sun races and they were very exciting. But besides drink what do you do for the first 10,000 laps?

Looks like you had a great time.

JD, Some might call it Luck, others might call it a gift.

For the first 10,000 laps or so you sit there in the sun and your neck gets well, RED! You can't appreciate how loud these things are. Ear plugs are a must. You could not hear the F18's overhead............really!
The smart money would be to show up with about 30 laps left or enjoy it from the confines of your sofa.

Since they went to restricker plates on the super speed ways some of the drivers have suggested that they go to a 200 mile format so then they could put on a "real" show.

There are people that follow this circuit all season from coast to coast and never miss a race.

I Figure, Every 10 years or so never hurt anybody.

I live in Richmond and it is a crazy week when Nascar comes to town. Of course, everyone usually gets there mid morning or early afternoon and you see a lot of folks shithoused before the race. Never had a bad time tailgating or at the race. The rubber dust is a pain when you have a cup of beer, it's usually covering the bottom of the cup.

You know the redneck sports are so much more fun than non redneck sports. We have Racin, fishin, and huntin, and now that Boo Weekley is on the PGA tour we are getting some recognition there. HMM Seems drinking is involved in all of these so maybe need to add that as a sport.
