Hey guys I'm sorry I haven't been as active lately as I would want to be but I have had alot going on and I wanted to share some of that with you (my family).
First the summer was a busy one with charters and I enjoyed every bit of it. I had great groups and decent fishing all summer. It was great meeting some of you from the docks.
Second I started dating a great man!!!!!!However when I met him his family was starting a long hard journey with his fathers diagnoses of ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. His father was diagnosed in Jan and it is progressing fast. He has his good days but they are starting to be over taken with the bad ones. We pray everyday for the life that he does have.
ALS is horrible disease it affects the muscles and nervous system. While the brain is mostly intact the muscles and nervous system dies slowly. It's just as bad for the patient as it is for the family. There is no cure and infact not much info on the disease itself. It's almost a mystery. Everyone has different symptons and goes thru the disease alittle different. More technical info on the disease can be found at http://www.catfishchapter.org/learn/index.html
My boyfriend has moved back to his family so he can be with them (it's only a couple of hours away).
Anyway I know there are other people out there that knows someone or has had to go thru this with a family or friend and I was hoping to be able to blow off some steam when needed.
We are doing several ALS walks (this weekend is in Emerald Isle) to help raise money for research as well as financial needs of patients that aren't as fortunate as his father to have great insurance. The expense of some of the things that are needed at each stage (so to speak) is mind boggling. The type cane that the doc told him to get is over $300. He was told last week at Duke not to go and buy a fold up wheel chair (because insurance will only pay for one BIG item) He was told when it's needed to go ahead and get a motorized wheelchair that would help lift him out of the chair and that would be over $30,000. A WHEELCHAIR COSTS MORE THAN A NEW CAR![]()
If anyone wants to donate or sponsor us for the next couple of walks please let me know. There are several ways of doing it. Remember this is for a great cause. I feel the walks and golf tourneys are the least that I can do for his family and others that will benefit from any research or a cure.
If someone wants to volunteer their time please check out http://www.catfishchapter.org/events/index.html
for alist of events in the NC area.
