    Tried the Rupp Nok Outs a few years ago--now they are standard rigging issue for me. best release clip I have found for bigger baits (macks, spreader bars, etc...) they allow you to retrieve the spreader bar thru the clip, w/o popping but will always release on the bite.

    I am glad this topic came up, and glad aftco is such a stand-up type of company.
    Based on the info in this great thread, I sent Greg an email last Thursday afternoon. Nothing heard. Sent a follow-up email early on Monday morning. Nothing heard. Called Aftco Monday afternoon and left him a voice mail. Nothing heard.

    Thusfar, their customer service is no better than their OR-2 clips. I can not call them a "stand-up" company based on this experience.

    I have four of the OR-2 that were purchased very recently - and don't work properly.

    Definitely "STAND-UP"

    Just received a phone call from Greg at AFTCO. He was out of the office for a few days.

    We discussed the problem and how it came to be. It has been corrected on the OR-2 units.

    Greg simply asked me to mail him my current OR-2 units, and he will replace them for me. He gave me a choice of OR-1 or OR-2...

    Ocnslr, remember, patience is a virtue. some people actually go on vacations and take time off of work. a three or four day turnaround is unusual, but is not unacceptable. i am glad you were able to work things out and still have confidence in aftco.


    Younger, i posted the number for Greg, he has been the one handling most of the issues, so try calling him. there is no guarantee that ones on the shelves in tackle stores aren't old stock from distributors. if you have the time to complain about it, you have the time to call. this world is getting away from the personal side of things. how often is a phone call made when an email could be used. i very rarely check my e-mails, or my private messages and am guilty of letting them back up.. i prefer phone calls if it is important.

    Greg returned my call within 4 hours. I am sending old clips and he is sending a pair of OB-1 to replace. Service seems to be exceptional so far.

    i am not the most patient person around i can assure you but if you think about every pair of clips made and sold, you could only imagine the volume of calls/e-mails this company has received. a little faith is all that is needed.

    i honestly just wish all companies took care of their customers in this mannner. thanks for the report Holwatchagot.

    aftco replacement of clips

    I sent aftco an email,

    Here is there reply,

    Dear Kevin-

    Thank you for your email regarding the problems you have had with our OR-2
    Roller-Troller release clips. Please accept our apologies for the
    difficulties our clips have caused you.

    The new clips were developed to try and improve on the older-style OR-1
    Roller-Trollers. We spent many thousands of dollars to build new tooling,
    which produced a stronger part with a greater range of release pressure. We
    tested the OR-2 clips for 18 months before we ever shipped production, and
    all of the field test reports were positive. Unfortunately, we had an
    outside vendor which changed our material specifications on our second
    production run of OR-2s, and produced a part which was brittle and
    frequently would not open. Many of these brittle parts were shipped before
    we discovered the problem and changed the parts back to the proper material.

    All of the OR-2s shipped for the past year have the proper material, and
    they no longer lock-up or release improperly. Regardless of the
    improvements since the material problem, we know many of our customers have
    lost confidence in the new Roller-Trollers. Because of the problems with
    the new clips we have decided to bring back the old OR-1 Roller-Trollers.

    Please email back with your mailing address and we will immediately ship you
    2- sets of OR-1s at no charge. Again, we apologize for the troubles our
    clips have caused you and we thank you in advance for your continuing
    support of AFTCO products.
