I agree. Ialso bought som Goldfinger clips.....the wires rusted in one week. PURE JUNK. I went back to Blacks. Send an email to Bill Shedd and tell him how you feel....I did.
I recently changed to the Aftco Roller Trollers because our SPRO wind-on swivels wouldn't pass the clips we had.
Of course, the SPRO's go through the new Aftco units, but the damn things don't want to release. I've shaved some plastic here, and there, but still no way to get a reliable setting.
okay guys, maybe this will help those in fear of losing one of the best clips on the market due to cheapening of product! the actual reason that aftco changed design was some people would overun the thumbwheel which will eventually wear off the thumbwheel retainer pins bradded end and the clip would then come apart, then they would complain about the release clip being defective. i have a friend that works for aftco and he put me in touch with the head of their customer service dept named Greg Statesbury. After stating the problems i was having with my OR-2 clips and the tension at the lowest setting was enough to crumple a set of outrigger tips, he enlightened me. The OR-1 series is still being run but just recently in small amounts. the company making the oOR-2 composite molded pieces for aftco was supposed to use 10% fiberglass in the composition for rigidity and its spring like qualities. unknown and unauthorized by aftco, the composite piece which comprises the make-up of the OR-2 had its compound characteristics changed by the company making them. they changed from anywhere to 20-30% fiberglass compound (making them tight as hell and not able to pop open) rather than the 10% compound which gave some rigidity without compromising proper release tension settings. call greg and he will make it right. just send him the old ones in return. he will give you the choice of old OR-1 style or the new OR-2 style in return for your bad OR-2's.
i have extreme faith in Aftco and you guys should too, they are another good faith company practicing business in our community of sportfishing!

Marty You are right on the Money with that. I have 6 of those new shit rollers on my boat and im looking too replace them. I would rather have a huge plastic cloths pin on my riggers then the new and improved aftco rollers.
And to the Egg Head that reworked that latch for the igloo playmate cooler I hope you saved the company lots of money. But that new latch SUCKS, After having broke 3 and everything in my lunch box spill out on the ground while Im waiting in line to punch out is real nice.

AS YOU WILL NOTE ....I DID PRAISE AFTCO WITH THE VERSE OF ME SPENDING THOUSAND$ OVER THE YEARS WITH THEM AND I HAVE NOT SHYED AWAY....THIS ALONE $HOULD SAY THAT I BELIEVE IN THEM....
I'M SURE THERE ARE GREAT ROLLERS OUT THERE.....MAYBE THE RUPPS ARE GOOD....AND I LIKE THE BLACKS FOR CERTAIN APPLICATIONS
BUT LATELY...MANY MANUFACTURERS ARE CHANGING THINGS OUT AND QUITE FRANKLY...THE PRODUCTS ARE HEADING SOUTH....THEN ITS BACK TO TRIAL & ERROR FOR ME FINDING SOMETHING THAT WORKS!!

PLEASE QUIT MAKING WHITE CHEEZ-ITS....AND NACHO SCENTED -ITS AND JUMBO TRAIL MIX-ITS ....GOLD TRIGGERS RELEASES AND SUCH..AND ALL THAT HOGWASH YOU HAVE INFLICTED ON US AND GO BACK TO JUST THE ORIGINAL...HELL I EVEN HAVE TROUBLE FINDING THE ORIGINALS NOW!
