    8-27-09 mini report

Almost ashamed to post my little mess, with Biscuit and Slip plastering constant bottom massacres, but I am going to anyway. Kay and I slipped out Thursday afternoon in a decent swell but otherwise slick ocean hoping for a mixed bag. We had a noon start so wasn't planning on going too far. We hit several spots that have produced some good BSB in the past but the east wind had us guessing where the bite went. We were only in 55ft compared to the bottom slayers 55 miles. We did manage to find one short gag, a gaggle of sharks, and this one big enough to make us a grouper sandwitch. We got back to Bogue inlet about 7:30 and the swell was stacked up about 8' and breaking heavy all the way across the inlet. The pucker factor stepped up a few notches and I told Kay to hang on. We set back and waited for a big breaker and hit the gas going in suds right behind it. We made it OK but I did not want to look back till we got to flat water. I didn't want to know what was coming behind us.

Pretty lime green color to that one. I wonder if this is common in so shallow. Sounds like an interesting bar crossing. Glad you come through no worse for the wear.

Fine fish Greg. Please consider that I have never caught a keeper gag in 55 feet or shallower, so do not sell yourself short on this catch.

Is the leg well enough for an all day little boat bottom fishing trip yet?

Those inshore gags are definitely "greener" looking than the deeper water ones. I like to call them watermelons! they look like them and "crack" like them when you push the fillet knife in.

    Cheers,

Nice to see you able to get out after the fish again. Nice gag - definitely a few sammiches in that one.

Nice gag- at least you were out there trying- the shallow water gags fight all the way to the top. Don't forget you had a 1/2 limit of gags !!! Thanks for the report and pictures

I would say that fella would produce enough sandwiches to feed a small army. Very nice gag. Glad to read that you are back after em. Pretty work.
