    7-21-10 Congaree fish killin

After a failed attempt at fishing yesterday, BeagleMan and I set out this morning for the Congaree River with our old boat. Have not had it out in some time, but seemed to run ok. Better than the other one yesterday. We arrived at the river to find it on the rise, lots of foam and trash floating down, and orange in color. We took 100 crickets and seven dozen catawaba worms. We had about a dozen worms left over. Bite was good if you were after catfish, ok if you were after bream. We managed to fill the 48 quart cooler before coming home. There was lots of wildlife out today. Could hear pigs on the bank, and got to watch some deer for a while. Fished in the shade all day.

do you eat "blackfish" (bowfin, grindle). I never heard of anyone eating them until the year before last when I was in your area hunting hog's. The folk's that were there are crazy about them. I didn't try them myself, I was too busy eating the wahoo (which weren't too bad). Just thought I'd ask. Do you know when eating blackfish caught on down there? I don't know if they are eaten anywhere else. Frank

Mudfish, no we do not eat them. Feed them to the hogs if we do catch one. BeagleMan says he knows a few people from the dark side of town who grind them up and make pattys out of them.

Great pics as always beaglewoman. I have noticed that ice must be scarce in SC since you always seem to have bottles of frozen water to keep the catch cold.

Cheap and easy to store. plus lasts lots longer than the bagged ice available. Had one bag in the cooler with the bottles, i just took it out to take the pics.
