Hey, has anyone ever tried trolling from the 14 to the 90?

Those who did were rewarded fairly well on Saturday as they got closer to the 90.

But it was a rough ride out. I could only make 12 knots past the knuckle. No whitecaps, but tough chop. And I was passing boats at that speed.

Lines in 2 miles shy of the 14. Basically because I was bored of just riding around.

Continued to be bored for a while. Yawn. No fish.

An hour later a slinger. Surprise! He took the blue/white Ilander makeshift dolphin weenie thing.

Continued to push offshore over some live bottom. Not long thereafter there was all the bailers you wanted. They came right up to the boat once I stopped, as though I was flotsam. I tried to catch them with some light tackle, but they weren't taking it. I tried Crystal Minnows and a Spro jig.

Continued trolling in that area. Picked up 8 altogether. Could have easily limited out but I left 2 slots open for a big fat one or two which never happened. Lost 2 nice ones at the transom.

Pushed farther offshore with nothing to show for it.

Almost all came on blue/white Ilander makeshift dolphin weenie. The 2 bigger ones hit Black Bart's tuna candy. Bleeding dorado color. A football false albacore also hit that one.

One boat on the radio reported that he lost count of the mahi that he was catching. I don't think too many people had trouble catching mahi if they were in that area.

Video of this trip, and me trying (and failing) to catch the mahi with light tackle, can be found
