NOW I AM NOT PICKING ON HATTERAS HERE ONE BIT.....BUT LET'S FACE REALITY HERE...THEY DO HAVE A VERY SHORT 23 MILE RUN TO SPLATTERVILLE .....BUT HATTERAS IS 437 MILES FROM NO-WHERE AND SHOULD HAVE A SWEDISH JETRAIL TRAVEL SYSTEM TO GET YOU TO AND FROM - IN AND OUT QUICKLY - WHEREEVER YOU HAILED FROM.

THERE ARE TWO PLACES ON EARTH THAT A MAJOR HIWAY SIMPLY COMES TO AN END....HATTERAS AND HIWAY 12...AND CEDAR ISLAND AND HIWAY 70 IN MY NECK OF THE DUNES.....NOW BOTH HAVE CULLDASACKS THAT YOU CAN TURN AROUND IN AND GET THE HELL OUT AS FAST AS YOU ARRIVED .....BUT BOTH PLACES HAVE A PRE-COLUMBUS SUREALISM THAT YOU FALL OFF THE END OF THE EARTH WHEN YOU ARRIVE.

NOW THIS SOUTHERN NC PLACE , THE AREA BELOW THIS SECONDARY DMZ LINE WE HAVE DRAWN ACROSS THE STATE.....I PROCLAIM THIS TO BE DA THE MECCA OF ALL REBEL KINGDOMS

FROM THE NUMBER #1 RED DRUM FISHERY IN THE WORLD....SORRY LOUISIANA...BUT IT'S TRUE.......TO A DAILY MAHI ATTACK MAY-AUGUST.

HECK, EVEN AFTER 20 YEARS OF GOVERNMENT SPENDING OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS INTO EASTERN NC'S GLOBAL TRANSPARK...IT WAS FINALLY ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY THAT TWO MAJOR INDUSTRIES WOULD BE RELOCATING IN LENOIR COUNTY, NC....ONE BEING SPIRIT AREOSPACE.....HIRING THOUSANDS WHILE DOING SO..........THIS AREA DOES FALL INSIDE THE BISCOTO 90 MILE RADIUS RULE.

#3... SHOPPING....UNTIL RECENTLY MOREHEAD CITY HAD NO SHOPPING UNLESS YOUR A TACKLE FREAK AND CLASSIFY GOING TO CAPT JOE SHUTES BAIT & TACKLE AS SHOPPING. JOE'S PLACE AND EJW'S HAS BEEN FOR HERE YEARS AND ARE STILL THE TWO TACKLE HANGOUTS OF THE AREA

BUT NOW....WE HAVE SHOPPING MAGNATS SUCH AS TJ MAXX....BEST BUY...STAPLES...PETSMART... A NEW ARBY'S...AND THIS YEAR, A NEWLY CREATED SHOPPER'S ROW OF NEW BIZNESSES ON HIWAY 70 AS YOU'RE GOING OUT OF TOWN...OR INTO TOWN ...DEPENDING ON WHAT SIDE OF THE ASPHALT YOU ARE ON.....THERE ARE 3 WALMARTS WITHIN 23 MILES OF ONE ANOTHER....THERE ARE 3 WINGS STORES ON ATLANTIC BEACH....THATS RIGHT...IF MYRTLE BEACH , S.C. DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH WINGS STORES...LITTLE OL ATLANTIC BEACH DOES!

#4....FRESH SHRIMP..........YEP....CAUGHT RIGHT OFF THE BEACH HERE AS LONG AS THEY CAN GET OUT THE INLET..........YEAH YEAH....SHRIMP TRAWLERS WRECK HAVOC ON THE OCEAN FLOOR BUT SO DOES BLACKBEARD RELIC TREASURE HUNTING.....GIVE ME FRESH SHRIMP AND SCREW IMPORTED FARM RAISED.

It's a hot sauce restaurant with a pig cooker out back.

We used to take pledges to Wilbur's to "welcome" them to the South (over 100 miles one way)/

If you want to win an election in the great state of North Carolina, you better eat at Wilbur's.

Jesse Helms used to eat it on Capitol Hill, or so the rumor goes.

The only thing that comes close to Wilbur's is the Tiki Bar at Oriental Marina during the tarpon tournament.

#10 same MHC area dividing line, NW from there about 1 1/4 hours. B's Bar'B'Q on B's BBq road by Pitt Memorial Hospital. Maybe even better than Wilbur's uh-oh did I just say that. Get there before 1pm. They usually run out of pig by then. Best NC vinegar based BBQ down east. keeping my head down on this one until some of the Greenville folks chime in

BBQ rules you got Wilburs/Moore's/Chaps/B's and Roland BBQ.And no trip wouldn't be the same without a stop @ BT's and El's Drive In.Of course if the weather is crappy @ the SOBX you can always head for the hills and ride the Blue Ridge Parkway and chk. out the Lynn Cove Viaduct(sp?).One of the great wonders of the world.
