Anthony's Ark is a blowboater
5/7 Wb topwater action
Headed out yesterday in search of mahi and grouper. Fishing started out a little slow in the morning so we decided to head offshore for snowy grouper. Half way to the spot we came across a floating mini fridge and stopped to investigate. We saw nothing home but decided to make a few casts with my new shibuki minnow anyways. On the second cast a nice mahi comes greyhoundning from over 100yds away zeroed in on the bait and smoked it. That was quite a sight to see and there is no doubt the shibuki is a catching machine. We proceeded to land 2 mahis in the 20 lb class on topwater and a "quick release" with the gaff on one that would have gone over 40 lbs. It was by far my biggest mahi but oh well. I cannot wait for some more topwater action. They shut down after we knocked that one off the hook. We proceeded out to the snowy grounds and had a quick limit. We had a few more gaffers on the troll and lost a couple more nice gaffers. We must have been fishing with rubber hooks! Anyways, the conditions were beautiful and the fishing was good. Life doesn't get any better. Cheers!

Nice job on the grouper and Mahi. I love casting for Mahi and Hoo's. I have a few spots offshore of the Big Rock that holds some really nice snowy's and Tilefish. Ken

Pretty work Chip. From the chatter on the vhf, sounded like there was a pretty good mahi bite yesterday. Congratulations to you and your crew.

Nice report and catch Chip. Gaffers on plugs are definitely special.
I looked up that shibuki minnow. They look like works of art! Did not see a top water one. Got any pictures of that thing?

We caught the mahis on a big topwater x-rap and a shibuki minnow. The shibuki is a lipped sinking lure but can be worked right on the surface. It is about 6 or 7 inches long and puts out a ton of flash. I will post a picture up.
Slip, unfortunately we were having a few problems with the radio and did not here all the chatter of the awesome bite up to the north of us. We still caught plenty of fish it was not a real hot bite for us. Cheers!

Here are the pictures...
The orange belly makes a big difference and puts off a lot of flash.
