Just thought I'd give a quick report and thank you to my gracious host for the Independence Day festivities! After a last minute plea for a boat ride to rescue me from the mundane 4th of July activities that awaited me on shore .... our good friend Gottafly Lee called me aboard for a circle-hook, sailfish trip out of Wilmington.
We got out early enough to beat the 4th of July Googan traffic and headed south. We could not have asked for better water or weather. Once we reached our destination, the water was clear as a bell. Complete with Flying fish, scattered grass, porpoises, bait, and man-o-war, it was lookin good to tempt a sailfish or two.
Lee set the naked spread of 'hoos in impressive fashion and the count after a day of wrestlin with weeds and circle hooks we had a nice strike from a sail that never came tight, a gaffer, and a slinger in the box and a few more that were only hungry for ballyhoo tail but no hook.
All in all I couldnt have asked for a better day on the water. Lee and his friend Dicky were gracious and generous hosts, making sure that my brain was fully loaded with tips before I left. I must say that it was culture shock coming back from that peaceful ocean to the 4ht of July madness that awaited us inshore.
If you ever have the opportunity to get out on the Gottafly, run ... dont walk to the Marina.
Sorry... no pics but the last minute nature of the trip left me unprepared!!!!
Thanks Lee for a great day. Hope you catch up thise sails in the weeks to come!

Chris, the pleasure was all mine, I really enjoyed it.
Sorry we did not put you on the other end of the pointy one but we had a shot, not bad for 14 miles off the beach... next time... As I said, you want to beat him to the rod...
