By advertised specs. the 42' Henriques has more sq. ft. than a 52' Viking. 155 sq. ft. vs 148 sq. ft. The beam is 14'-9" vs. 17'-3" so the rail on the Henriques is a lot longer.
I know this is not apples to apples. I am not knocking the Viking, these two boats are very different. Just using it as a compairson.
The keel on the Henriques is solid, it does not take on water. The drifting characteristics are very good.
This is my first time of this forum so I hope I hear back.
To the Captain of the Surprise.
I'm thinking of moving to a 42 and wondered how the engines have treated you. I'm familiar witht the 38 w updated volvos and the 35 with yanmars. Both run great. I see some comments on the web about them smoking. Has this been an issue for you? Appreciate any feedback.
Has alway's looked like a good boat to me. I know a fella that fished one ALOT around here. The only thing I heard on the negative side was that it could get alittle squirrelly coming through a breaking inlet. I guess if you were coming in and came down the face the bow would dig and bow steer hard. I tend to like the depth the hull carry's from bow to stern. In my opinion it wouldn't make for a fast boat, but it should make for a very good sea boat (depth and weight are very important). My last commercial boat was a lobster hull, she wasn't fast, but man would it take some weather. I worked alot of day's out there with the rest of the fleet tied up. I really do appreciate a good sea boat, speed is not nearly as important in my book. Anyone got any personal experience, that can hold up or knock down my thought's? I'd sure be interested. Thank's, Frank
Your boat has to be bad look at the size balls it has LOL...Seriously though, We have a friend here with a 42 i belive and either they have a horseshoe nailed onto the transom or they are insaine fish raisers ........only man i've ever seen get a white on a planer lol
HA HA HA
Actually it is a 38 Kapoc and I was on board when the White came on the Planer
Planer, Ilander with large bally, wire line, 8/0 hook...who needs dink rigs? (joking)
And yes, the boat and the Captain are serious fish raisers. Insane fishing trips on the 38 Hen as well as the 31 Alby he had before that!
Have to retype this due to loosing my connection, I think.
Back to my original question about the engines. I probably should have worded it better, although I am a firm believer that engines have a lot to do with raising the fish, and thanks for you replies.
Has anyone had any mechanical issues with the MANS? I'm looking at a 2005 42 HEN with over 1100 hrs. I'm not familiar with these engines, but have seen comments on the internet that some owners complain that they smoke. I currently have a 35 HEN with Yanmar 440s. No real smoking or issues with these (Yanmar replaced the heads several years ago due to valve problems-all free and the warranty was out).
Thanks for your help on this.
used to work on the FISH WITCH its a 44 outa carolina beach, its gotta b shitty for Carl not to go, boat is a brick shithouse
Boonebird, I am building a new boat for a customer who is selling his 42 express. The boat runs good and looks to be well built. he has the Yanmar 720hp in her and they run so good he is installing the 900hp Yanmars in his new boat. F&S has the boat listed (609)780-0309 Scott. you wont find one cleaner. he can call me as well.
