4/25 Offshore on the "Reel Fun"
Broke Beaufort inlet at 0500 headed to the BR, pushed out just past the 100 fathom line looking for some warm water could not find anything warmer than 68.3. Put our lines in and started trolling with not such high hopes. Trolled from the NE to the SW looking for a pocket of warm water.
After a couple of hours we were starting to discuss alternate plans. We were in a little trash / weed area not really a line in 67.5 water 370 feet deep. We get a triple knock down and boat 3 Mahi, say what in 67.5 water
So we stayed right in that little area for another hour or so and picked up 3 more Mahi. After that nothing else so we headed back NE. Nothing else trolling.
I always mark a few spots while trolling to jig when we get ready to leave. We go to the first mark drop in 370 feet of water and I get a nice Red Grouper, the next couple of stops give us AJ’s, and the last gives up 3 Kings all on jigs.
Final tally for the day was 6 Mahi, 2 small, 2 Med, and 2 Gaffers, 1 Red Grouper, 3 Kings, and a hand full of AJ’s (AJ’s where all released.) Good part was no fish that was hooked got off trolling or jigging. We had 1 short strike by a peanut we saw hit a bait behind a squid chain, but missed the hook.
Sorry no pictures I was busy rigging and setting lines.
