    11/24 trout

Over the mountain and through the woods to grandmothers house we go... the second verse should have been something about doing some trout fishing while your there! Every Thanksgiving we travel to visit family in the SW mountains of Virginia. Trout fishing has been great over the years and continues after day one of our 2010 trip.

While in route Nolan had some work to do in the back seat. I know alot of you have rigged baits on the way to the deep in the low light of early morning. Try a midnight tying of a #14 pheasant tail while your brother holds a flsh light.

After a late morning that included a full spread of MOM's sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, we head to the mountain streams. Arrive around noon to find very low flow and crystal clear water. With only a few trout left over from the Oct. 8 stocking and tough water conditions, the fly rods ended up being swapped out with spinning to help our chances with the skittish fish.

Wyatt is working over a small channel hoping for that first strike.

Ewing lands the first, one of the many C&R natives that keeps us coming back year after year.

Nolan has the largest fish of the day snatch up his trout magnet.

Ewing with his best catch of the day! All but one trout was landed on the trout magnet shown here in Ewings fish.

Final shot of another great day fishing the mountain streams of SW Virginia with the boys!
